Here's a couple crappy shots of the engine in my Audi.



Notice the nice taping at the conduit branch near the fuel pump, as well as the wire strain relief fittings on the fuel pump and MAF. The red molded conduit for the coils is also really nice, but that isn't something easily adapted to a different car.



The big cable coming down from the firewall is for the starter and alternator. The cable housing is some kind of flexible plastic mesh. There's more nicely molded vacuum and wire conduits near the brake booster (the silver can in the upper right)

It does not know the meaning of death! With nothing more than a new hose and some water, it braved a 70 mile journey in brutal heat to bring back a replacement for it's own wounded heart!

I bet with the sun roof open, back window open, and side windows open that you get a nice amount of air flow through the cab.

I do. I don't know if it's because of the bigger mirror I have on the drivers side, but I get a lot of air buffeting right in my ear. Fixing the AC is high on my to-do list.

Closing the slider should kill the buffeting.

When I thought the Miata was going to be totaled I looked for a mighty max or raider. I look forward to the engine swap posts.

Excited to see your MIVEC build. You won't regret the upgrade. Decide on which way you want to tackle the ecu and wiring?

Do tell. I'd like to see someone else join the ranks.

Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, insurance is fixing the Miata. For now I'm not going to be making any changes to our current 3 car lineup.

I love how I went from a raider.....to a humvee. I'm proud of myself. Hahahahaha. I went from very little being practical (the trucks have way more uses than a 2 door SUV) to an even less practical, possible not street legal, SUV.

92 Sundance with 6G75 and the drive by wire Eclipse GT ECU

So someone has managed to hack the eclipse ecu to that level??

If you don't change the hardware, you don't need to mess with the software.

It's a long story with the 4G ECU. The Tactrix software can't reliably reflash them. We had a long thread about it here. I've got most of the maps and some of the code figured out, but with no reliable reflash tool, it doesn't do much good.

There's some guy in Canada who wrote a program called FastWorks. It'll reprogram the newer ECUs. $350, and you still need the Tactrix cable. In reading a thread about that Sundance, they said the software wasn't very good relative to the price. I ran across the author a few times on various forums (goes by the name Hackish) and he's an absolute dick. I wouldn't buy a candy bar from him.

There's also a Russian tool that'll reflash them, but it's also a couple hundred dollars, and again, uses the Tactrix cable.

Gotta disable the immobilizer at a minimum. Even if you can hack the immo components into your car or truck, you still need to be able to match keys to it.

Time for Phase 3 to begin. I've made the truck work. Now it's time to make it crazy

I stripped down the last of the 6G74 last night, and put it into the truck so I can go get my core charge back on Saturday. All that's left is the long block and oil pan.

The 6G75 is on the stand, and I mocked up the V77 3.8L Montero intake on it. It's nearly a perfect fit.



The only problem is the flange on the throttle body side hits the taller MIVEC valve cover. The V87/V97 Pajeros have a slightly different intake and support bracket to accommodate this.



I was going to just grind the intake down since I don't plan to run EGR on this, but I have a slightly different idea I want to try first. I really want to try to keep the bracket because I don't like this giant, top heavy, expensive piece of aluminum only being supported by the lower manifold.

You know my vote. Man is that thing tall though. Hope you can close the hood. I mean it's like twice the height of a 74.

It's an optical illusion. Probably because it's not as wide as the K99 intake. Sitting flat on a table, the V77 is roughly 8" tall if I remove the pressure sensor. The stock Max intake is about 7". The K99 intake is in between. It'll be snug, but there should be plenty of room. Worst case, I notch the bracing under the hood. I've got a nicer hood for my truck, but I'm keeping the crappy one so I can hack it up while I go through this conversion.
