Idiots will be idiots. That's a universal truth.

This is cool as hell.

I could read a whole book about the engineering and design of this car. It could end at the reveal event and I'd be happy.

They did that for the C7 - I hope they do it again for the C8. Good coffee table book.

I've got the C7 book. It's pretty good, but not nearly as in-depth as I'd like. "All Corvettes Are Red" is still my gold standard for a book like that. I don't think we'll see another book with that kind of unfiltered warts-and-all access.

Customers are starting to get their cars. The museum is starting to do deliveries too. That'd be a cool thing to do.

I got annoyed by all the babbling. Did they ever say if the car was past its 500 mile break in or not? The C8s limit torque until you're over 500 miles. I think GM said it was down about ~25% until then.

I don't think they said, but the 1/4 mile number is in line with where it should be with full power.

Looks like 2020 production is gonna be short. They're dropping some 2020 orders, and pulling 2021 ahead to May of this year. Of course, who knows if that'll stick due to the just-announced shutdown plans.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c8 ... rders.html

Also, the 24 Hours of Le Mans was pushed back to September. I was guessing a Z06 announcement would be tied to that race. Who knows what'll happen now.

What's the reasoning behind pulling 2021 to May? I mean, there's really no difference in models AFAIK and they haven't said anything about 2021 color changes. Are people canceling tons of 2020 orders?

This is totally speculative on my part, but here's what I think. A lot of it has to do with prior launch timing and the C8R and whatever the street variant would be.

The car was late, even before the strike and the virus and everything else. If you go by prior years, it would have been introduced around Jan of 2019, with ordering starting shortly after and customer deliveries starting in mid to late August. There are enough leaks indicating that the media teases should have started in late 2018.

The car got pushed back ~6 months due to alleged problems with the new Global B / connected vehicle electrical architecture. That puts us into a July announcement, with production starting in late Sept, and customer deliveries in late Oct or early Nov. That's still only ~3 months late getting into private hands.

Then the strike hit. So that pushed production to early Feb, and customers are just now getting their cars.

Meanwhile, the C8R debuted in January, with an engine that's required by the rules to be based on a road going version. No such car exists. Based on prior launch timing, the Z06 (or whatever) should have been announced in Jan during the 24 Hours of Daytona. They can't announce a new model before customers even have the current one.

If they push up ordering for 2021 with a start of production around August, then that gets them back on a more normal schedule. They could also start teasing the Z06 around then, with a full reveal closer to the rescheduled Le Mans race.

Not the best photo, but I think this is ceramic gray. Taken from one of the museum delivery webcams.

Hmm, yeah... I think I'm going to stick with the Blade Silver Metallic. It is kind of growing on me now. Ceramic Gray might be trickier to sell down the road.

I also don't like the body-color accent pieces, sticking with the carbon flash.

I think GM calls them 'split trident' but everyone else is calling them snowflake.

Yeah, The wheel choices from Chevy kind of suck. I'm hoping for 2021 they have some new ones. If stuck with the current offerings, I'd do the snowflake wheels, but with the recessed spokes in Spectra Gray so they don't show as much. That looks a little better, but I'm not excited about the wheels. Maybe would get some aftermarket wheels if they didn't grow on me.

Yeah. No chrome is a real bummer

I'm fine with no chrome. The black "standard" wheels look lame with the machined lip on them. If the lip was just a flat circle, it'd be better, but it has overhangs which look stupid. Or just make it all black instead of the machined lip. The snowflake looking ones are too busy looking, but are a bit better if the inset spokes are a darker color. I dunno.... The wheels they have available are probably the thing I like least about the car right now.

Transmission removal at 32 miles.

GM dealer technician here. Vehicle has 32 miles on it, driven conservatively in accordance with recommended break in procedures. The transmission has developed a small fluid leak, and is setting a DTC for the limited slip differential fluid pressure. After going through various levels of technical assistance and action center personnel, Tremec has opted to tear the unit down themselves. So, I get to put a box in it. I figured some of you would be interested in seeing one get torn apart, so I'll be adding pictures as I go today and likely tomorrow. So far, nothing earthshattering. The rear suspension comes apart a lot easier than the C7, but the engine support fixture is a bear. If anyone has any questions, let me know and I'll see if I can get an answer.

Update - subframe is on the ground, I have to go poke at something else for awhile. Heres an album with some notes. I'm on mobile, let me know if the album doesnt work.
