Vendors don't know everything. There was a vendor for the Grand Prix crowd that said transmission coolers weren't worth it because 1 heat doesn't kill transmissions....yes they actually said that, and 2 because user error on install could kill the transmission due to a leak.

Well this vendor I trust. We also discussed earlier there is a known 'weakness' with the Miata thrust bearing. By eliminating the need to press the clutch in you reduce the wear to the thrust bearing. The reality is any time you start the car with the clutch pedal depressed it adds extra wear to the thrust bearing. They gave me the clip which bypasses the clutch interlock switch so I'm using it.

I'd trust Flyin Miata. I'm pretty far removed from the Mazda community and even I know how solid their reputation is.

How did this become a discussion? All I said was every car should be started that way

Re: Bought a Miata
Yeah I agree they should be, but unless you bypass the clutch interlock you can't.

I temporarily bypassed the clutch interlock on my Audi. The car did not like that one bit. The ECU knew...

Yeah I was worried about losing cruise control on the Miata, but so far as I can tell nothing else has been affected from the bypass clip.

Also I like the fact I put on one of rarest GTO MR parts on my Miata and were talking about the labels I made to remind me to not touch the clutch pedal

Yeah newer stuff gets pissy about it. I had a Cruze or cobalt in least year and she wasn't fully depressing the clutch to shift. It set a DTC.

Re: Bought a Miata
The Audi had two sensors. One on the pedal, and one embedded into the clutch master. It knew when they disagreed, and it knew if you shorted one to voltage or ground. I shorted the pedal sensor to ground so I wouldn't have to bury the clutch and risk blowing my hydraulic lines again. This was just a short term workaround while I was setting up to replace the defective clutch fork pivot. Fortunately the car would still start, but it set a couple codes, threw an EPC (electronic power control) light on the dash, and disabled my cruise control.

See post 454... Needed to do that so my helmet is below the roll hoop

You should it's fun. I find it a little expensive for the seat time you get but the risk of going too hard is a lot lower than on the track.

Loaded it up on the trailer and towed it to the hotel, Thunderhill 3 mile East Course tomorrow. It's only supposed to be 102 here tomorrow :spin:
