Changed the oil and added some Lucas stuff to it. The tick is almost not noticeable now. I wonder what it is.

If that made a change it might be piston slap.

My thoughts too. LS engines are apparently notorious for it. My engine was more noisy after an oil change but a few hundred miles later its starting to quiet down again. Heard fresh oil change makes it louder unless you add additives. :d ontknow:

Is that rebuild time....or it just kind of does it? It Deff made a noise change. If I didnt know it was there I would never hear it.

I added some snake oil. Lucas oil stuff. I only used half of what it recommended. Crazy stuff, like a stringy oil. The sound is all but gone. Only if you really know to listen for it. I don’t know what it is but I will worry about it after summer and boat season.

My dad drove the avalanche in to get mulch. Never heard any noises. I drive it in to get oil, was quiet....but when I was backing into my house driveway the noise was Deff there. If I had the radio on I prob wouldn’t hear it but it wasn’t fast, just gets louder when it’s straining.
What the freak?
Guy at work who races and does LS motors said “it’s an LS motor it’s lifters” I said you don’t hear it from the top “he said it’s an LS motor it’s lifters”. I showed him the video “he said run higher weight oil”.
I’m guessing it’s not lifters.

The lifters are in the block, not in the heads.
It is probably the lifters.

Heard it a lot today when cold. Went away when warm.
It doesn’t sound like lifter. But maybe.

It's not a lifter.
Also to change them you gotta pull the heads

What do you think steve? Rod? When warmed up I can’t even hear it. My dad thinks water pump but it’s not leaking and it’s not from the front of the engine.

Because piston slap goes away when the pistons heat up, expand, and get to the proper piston to wall clearance.

It’s time, no…past due, I gotta get tires for this thing. They are so dry rotted that I’m playing with safety.
I don’t wanna spend a whole lot. It doesn’t get shit for miles put on it…main worry is always snow.
Is there such a thing as budget tires that are good in snow?

Tire Rack let's you filter for "sever snow" rated tires. That's all I got.

What Chris said. Get severe snow rated tires, they are all seasons, and almost as good in snow as winter tires. We have them on the Explorer, it's great in the snow.

That’s a cool option. Still seems cheapest option is 170’s. Gah tires cost too much.

Since I only put maybe 1k a year on my exploder it lives on proper snow tires. 4 years now and they're less than 25% worn.
