Big leak to Jalopnik last night. They got some very specific details about the new hybrid powertrain. Looks like it's not just going in the top end models. The base car will be getting it too.

In a nutshell, there's going to be an electric motor up front, and a battery pack in the center tunnel. It's going to be a performance oriented system like McLaren uses rather than some fuel economy BS.

I'll bet right now that doesn't show up in the Stingray variants. 95% chance this is all ZR-1 only components, and it is going to be expen$ive.

Maybe some of these parts are descendants of the Volt/Bolt powertrain components.

I dunno. There's those cars that were spotted testing in Colorado. The engine bays were uncovered, and it was pretty obviously a variant of the LT2 in the back. But someone got a picture of the VIN, and they had different model and engine codes. They only go to that trouble when it's something that's destined for production.

I could see this being a good way to make the Grand Sport be more than just a widebody Z51.

I guess we'll see, but historically it would be a departure from what they've done. They have always saved the higher performance goodies for the elevated models. Logistically from a build perspective on the line it would seem cumbersome to have multiple model variants with different drivetrain options within each (or some) models.

What's Jalopnik's history on getting these sorts of things right? I dunno.

There's a lot of very specific info in that article. Either they're blatantly lying about it, or it's legit, or it's a really elaborate disinformation plot.

I'm going with it being legit.

They've started to depart from the norm with the C7 anyway. The C7Z was supercharged where no Z06's had been supercharged previously.

I could definitely see this being the Grand Sport having the base engine with the hybrid boosted powertrain, then the Z06 and ZR1 having different levels of boosted hybrid powertrains.

That could very well make sense. We'll have to wait and see what gets announced for 2021 or 2022. I wonder if the higher variants might be delayed a bit since production is starting late on the 2020 Stingrays.

Regardless, it would seem that they'll sell every one they build no matter what it is for the first few years.

I think we're going to see a compressed launch schedule for this car. I'm still holding to the theory that it started off 6 months late and thanks to the strike it's going on a year.

I'm not sure what reason Chevy would have to compress the launch schedule though. If they are selling all the cars that they can produce with just the Stingray and Convertible Stingray available, what incentive is there for them to release new variants?

I asked my dealer if I was to switch my "placeholder" for the twin turbo version to the Stingray Convertible, would I be able to get one in 2020 and he just laughed and said maybe 2021, if I was lucky.

I mean, it would be great if they do make the higher variants available - but I'm not seeing what the benefit is for Chevy in doing so. Right now they've got a lot of positive press, and more than enough orders to fill all of 2020 production and then some.

Plot twist, Democrat wins president and economy collapses and Chevy can’t get rid of all these vehicles they’ve made.

I second this as a base price. I'd bet options push that closer to $175-200K, since you can option out a C8 Stingray to 6 figures...

this is the Monica Bellucci of cars. I'll never be able to afford one when it's young and by the time I can it'll be to old.
