I actually have most of the exhaust from the manifolds back. It's in pretty rough shape. The nuts are almost completely rusted away, but there's still just enough to hold it firmly together. I'm going to have to use the angry grinder.
Speaking of catalysts, one thing I noticed about the UHaul truck we rented was the hard core cage they had built around the cat. It was made out of rebar. UHaul doesn't fuck around.
Brian wrote:The only issue is scrap is way down right now. Back when I was buying cars to part scrap was about $12 per 100lbs IIRC.
When we moved out of our old office last year, the guy we hired to scrap our cubicles said that it was $0.02 / lb. This truck weighed ~3150 intact. Let's say I've got it down to 2500. That's $50. Even if Pick N Pull took it for $0.00, they'd probably still lose money once they paid for the tow.
Just for fun, I ran Vira's dad's '95 Suburban 2500 through the online PnP quote. It doesn't run, but it's totally intact. $346. Same story with his '88 Volvo 240. $183.

As of yesterday I got 80/ton for the nastiest, rustiest scrap exhaust you could picture. Scaled as "tin" it's the lowest value I've gotten.
Based on that and previous values a car is probably 110/ton for me
YMMV based on location and yard

It's going to cost you money to get rid of it. Junkyard or scrap yard.
I could have told you that but you seemed like you were already a head of the game.

I really thought I was. I ran the Pick N Pull calculator when I bought it and it showed $75. I think the only thing that changed was I decided to keep the side windows. I don't get it :d ontknow:

Got an offer from one of the junkyards, but they require the title to be in my name. I really don't want to deal with that headache, so I sent in the form to Make a Wish to see if they'll take it as-is.
I've also got a few people who want parts off it, so I should still get a little cash back out of this deal.

This is really starting to piss me off. I remember back when Vira got rid of her Diamante, they couldn't find the title. Her dad had to sign an affidavit and give a thumb print, but that was all it took before the junkyard hauled it off.
Now everybody I talk to wants a fucking title for this thing, despite their websites saying they'll buy it without a title if it's more than 10 years old. I have the KS title, signed over. But it's obviously not in my name. I can't apply for a regular title, because it's fucking inoperable junk and I can't get an inspection certificate. I don't think I can apply for a junk title because I'm not a business.
I'm about to start cutting it into pieces and taking it to the scrap metal yard.

CoPart's title person said I can apply for a junk title as an individual. This should be a fun lunch time trip to the DMV...

Fuck yeah. Junking certificate. $3.00. $0.50 of that was for the parking meter.
My heart sank when the girl said they might still need an inspection since it's an out of state title, but fortunately she was wrong. No sales tax, none of the other typical fees. Just a $2.50 administration fee.
She barely even looked at the title, which was good. The seller had signed it back in 2015. I could have seen the DMV making an issue of that.
I wish I had known I'd need this. I'd have gotten it done back when I got the truck. It'll take up to 10 days for the new title to arrive. Still, that's way better than some of the alternatives.

Went and got the front brakes off a 98 Montero today. I found out when I got there that they were doing a 50% off day
The rotors are the same diameter as what I have now (276mm), but they're 5mm thicker. The calipers are dual piston vs single, and considerably bigger. I could have gone with 315mm rotors from a late Montero Sport, but I'd probably need to move up to 16" wheels for that. No thanks. This will work nicely with my disc equipped rear axle.
For the hell of it, I dumped the EPROM from the junk truck's ECU. It's not all that useful to me, but curiosity got the best of me.

Nice grab. Yea I grabbed a few parts as it was 1/2 off day here too. Finally found a passenger exhaust manifold that wasn't cracked. Yay!
Good. We have the same rotors and brakes now. Yea not any bigger but significantly thicker. The calipers are soooo much better. You are going to love it. I was thinking about sport too but I held off like you. Might be clearance issues.
How did the eprom dump go?

You all get to go to pull a part more than I get to work on my car. Jealous.

It looks like a valid read of the chip. I can only spot check a few things by going through it manually. I can't seem to find the tool I had for doing a full disassembly on it. IDA Pro, which we use for the newer stuff, doesn't have an interpreter for the chip they used in the really old ECUs.
