i could do up to 15k/yr but went for 10k. thats about all i drive and if needed i can grab my other car for a month.

15k a year would be nice just in case. I would still keep my current car too so I would have that. Also found out that our payroll credit went up to $100/month. Was looking at some lease deals, and between the credit and the fuel savings it would be hard to find anything else that would match the price of leasing an EV.

I've always struggled with leases because I modify my cars. Danielle leased her kia before she eventually bought it. Then later traded it in on the forester. Which she bought and we modified it. Lol

Same. except im getting tired of working on shit all the time and have other vehicles that are better at an individual task so i figured it would be best to leave this alone and enjoy warranty coverage.

Ya the mods I've done shouldn't negate the warranty. Outback is full skids and suspension lift. Forester is full skids and decals. Not touching anything in the actual drivetrain or engine.

I think in the past couple years I have started to transition from finding project cars to work on and fix up to just having a nice reliable car that does everything well and allows me to relax. Maybe its me getting older, or maybe its because financially Im not as strapped as i used to be. Its an odd transition that i never thought i would be in.

parking the sunturd for a bit. still like the car but in uber cold temps its just not that comfortable with my usage (short trips with short stops). the battery is one giant heatsink. car uses battery and its own "cooling" system to heat the cabin (its a weird heat pump+resistive heat with multiple switching valves) and the battery. well by the time it gets to a comfortable temp i park it for 20 minutes and ALL heat is lost. gets to temp again right as im pulling into my work parking lot.

now i could mitigate this by cranking cabin heat up but at that point my cost savings is minimal. as of right now its still significantly cheaper to drive and if i didnt have an unusual commute pattern it would be no issue. to make it comparable to driving my maxima in the super cold it would be equal to getting roughly 35mpg. still double but IMO not worth it when i already need to watch my mileage usage. if i park it for a couple weeks i get a huge window of room in my mileage limit.

as an added bonus i can hurt my hearing some more with the audio i have. the ringing has started going away.

That is interesting. That is why I like the plug in hybrids more. Use the gas engine when it makes more sense and electric when it makes more. Overall though, how is the comfort/drive? Danielle has contemplated looking into hybrids or electric as her next vehicle (after I get her the 69 camaro she keeps bugging me for), but it gets MUCH colder and hotter here than there.

its extremely comfortable.

as a car its amazing. very practical, comfortable, smooth and quiet. as an EV its ok. its just good enough at everything but stands out at nothing so the EV fanbois love to hate on it. the 2 biggest things people rip about are the charge speeds and range.

1. if you can charge at home and dont road trip charging speeds mean fuck-all.
2. if your round trip commute is less than 125 miles (estimates ive seen in below 0 temps and freeway/hilly driving) and you can plug it in at home for 10 hours on level 2 youll have no issues.

We do have a 240 outlet in the garage so level 2 should be doable if we go that route before we move.

We like our hybrid, but i may consider EV for my daily to work. Its at the worst a 30 min drive each direction.

i havent finished the video yet but they mentioned the hyundai/kia. that was initially on my list but didnt give them much thought as there was serious issues with even getting insurance coverage on them in washington due to how often they were getting stolen. (low spec ICE cars but insurance companies applied the ban make wide. it wasnt a matter of IF they would get stolen...but when)

almost 6 months in and still no new complaints. more power and range would be nice but not needed. much like the nissan leaf....its a great car that happens to be an EV. there are definitely signs of toyota being very conservative in the eyes of reliability much like nissan was with the leaf. yes, the leaf SUUUUUCKS in range and had problems with the first battery but that was mostly addressed and the car in general has proven to be extremely reliable in the long run so if you dont NEED a ton of range theyre great used cars and i have a feeling this car will be a sought after cheap commuter EV in 10 years. im still considering keeping one of them when the lease expires but itll be dependent on value at turn in. IIRC my residual is 23k.

700 miles and the cv is out? Sounds like they never even test drive these things.
