Can you handle another owners Forescan, or would that be deemed inappropriate?

There's enough extra Forscan for everyone to have their own. :heehee:

I went out and popped the dash trim apart to figure out the Android Auto situation, and to see how it was wired out. This thing was done professionally. It's such a refreshing change from the butcher work I've seen in other cars. It looks like they used this kit: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541RPK4FD ... Black.html

Nothing was cut. Everything was taped with high end fabric Tesa tape, or zip tied properly. All the screws were there. I think the Android problem may have been user error. It's working fine now. :)

It's almost a shame to think I might take it all out and retrofit a Sync system.

I know their electronics inside and out. Looks like it may be a moot point. Forscan looks almost like magic. I can't believe they give it away for free...
Yeah it's so awesome. I activated 'Bambi mode' where the fog lights stay on with the high beams (technically illegal) and the turn signals as DRL on my truck. It's also the app they use to upfit Sync2 trucks like mine with Sync3, which I also did.

I did Bambi mode on the Explorer and RS. Also changed sync3 screens over to the Ford GT skins cause they are a lot nice. Also changed the tap to pass to 5 blinks on the Explorer and added outside air temp to the gauge cluster since it doesn’t show on the sync screen when you have CarPlay going.

Outside air temp would be nice since I don't have a factory head unit.

I'm sure you've found this, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... =815852466

But the first thing in there is how to disable the auto start/stop (if it doesn't have the plug in thing).

I saw that. It's pretty impressive. BTW, there's no dongle hanging off the switch. I took it out for some errands last night and noticed the disable icon didn't show up automatically. But the truck never shut off. So I don't know what to think now. I'll worry about it later.

Probably disabled via ForScan then, my guess anyway. Not worth worrying about at this point for sure. Looks like you can potentially add the OAT to the cluster if I read it right on the IPC tab (row 194).

So according to Chris, the cab was the same between F150 and Super Duty. So theoretically I could get a 22 SD dash and add that giant screen.

Buuuut, it looks like Sync 4 requires the same kind of crazy network upgrades that GMs Info 3 system needs. So I can't realistically make it work.

You can always go to Sync 3.4 which is nice (though no massive screen).

Some oil analysis done on Ford trucks not using start stop, and using start stop. Turns out, it's better to use start stop

That's tentatively the plan. It'll all depend on how easily I can find cheap parts on eBay, and enough technical reference info to build a harness. The plug and play conversion kits seem to be well over $1500. Hell no. HARD pass.

If I can't piece it together out of inexpensive used parts like I do with all my other projects, then it's not happening. The Sony unit will have to be good enough.

I know in the RS, which came with standard Sync3, you could upgrade to 3.4, though it's not approved by Ford (why I haven't done it), as the 3.4 APIM hardware is different. Not sure how it works for a vehicle that didn't have Sync to start with though (I'm assuming yours had the small not Sync dash originally).

The parts needed for that conversion are VERY expensive unless you find it all used but it's only from 2022 Super Duties Lariat and above or maybe XLTs with the high trim option package.

Mine was stock with the 4" and some kind of base Sync. I think that's just BT audio and some limited voice recognition?

The upgrade harnesses in the pictures don't look bad at all. It's easily within my ability to do if I can find the right info. I'm not even against swapping over an entire donor dash harness if it turns out that would enable other upgrades.

A whole year of Corvette production is like a week of F-series production. Parts are plentiful.
