All that said, I won't pass on a GTO or Camaro if the right price/options are on it.

If any of you find a local Chevelle that looks clean while you are just browsing the internet or whatever, especially if it has a big block, post them up. I would be willing to buy non-local if the right car/price.

I would honestly focus on a California car. They are usually the best shape.

I have some family and friend in the area. Might see if they are willing to go take a look in person. If the car was garage kept most of it's life or had most of the rust fixed it won't be so bad.

Wrote them an email last night asking what rear end, gears, transmission, etc. and asking for underbody pics.

This was my dream car growing up. But as I got older I shifted towards the Chevelle. However, whenever I see one of these I still can't help but smile. The more research I am doing and looking at cars the only year Chevelle I think I would get is the big block 70 at this point, and they are crazy expensive. More than I want to spend. This falls into my price range and would only need a seat extender and aftermarket tach depending on what rear end and tranny.

That's a good looking car. Kinda disappointing to see the scuzz around the engine at that price point though. The wiring around the battery looks like a bit of a hack job too. Wires and a relay just hanging off into space. Untrimmed zip ties. Seat belts look kinda gross.

Maybe this is all fine at this price. I have NO idea what the market looks like for these. But if this is top dollar, I'd be a little weary of shortcuts that are obvious in photos. It makes you wonder what you can't see.

Wiring would need redone for sure. Would love to go look at this in person, but it is just under 250 miles one way. Kind of a trek. I know people that live up there, but they are not car people. You can tell it was a red car at one point. Also hard to tell in pics but is paint bubbling on the truck and front fenders or is it wet from a wash? Or just lighting? A big block camaro, especially 1st gen, tends to be pricey.

Hard pressed to find a clean first gen, especially the 69, under $40. Most are $50+ easily.

The paint looks ok to me. It looks like the spots might be water spots and/or reflections.

It might be worth getting if the price is that good. You probably don't want a pristine one anyway. It'd be more expensive and then you'd be afraid to drive it anywhere.

Maybe you could have them do a video call and walk around the car before you commit to going to see it?
