Either gas costs or surprise maintenance/repair bills for diesel. Besides the last time I saw someone do the math on the diesel paying for itself it was an obscene amount of miles.

Most pre Tier 4 Diesels are very efficient and low maintenance. Post Tier 4 Final, gas motors make for better purchases (business wise).

Not sure what the year range is for those diesel engines, but I do know cost and maintenance in fleets we're a primary driver for Ford coming out with the gas 7.3.

Tier 4 looks like started in 08 ish? The 7.3 diesel was phased out after 03

According to Fuelly the 7.3 in a 01 F350 gets about a national average of 12-13 mpg. My Outback gets about 22 average I think. My truck I traded in last year got 15 mpg average if I was easy on it.

IIRC an article I just read recently said the 8.1 was rated at 9 City 11 highway

That f350 and the avalanche 2500 have about the same towing capacity. Difference is bed payload capacity, but not a big one.

F350 - Max trailer weight 10k, with 5th wheel 14k. Payload 4310

Avalanche 2500 - gets an average of 10 mpg (2 less than the 7.3 powerstrokeme), tow capacity of 10-12k depending on source but only 1800 payload.

Trying to think. Truck + trailer is what, $25-30k at minimum?

Used transit vans can haul a few thousand in the back. Going to research those more as well I think.

My wife said I should get a flat bed mitsubishi.

You can find old ones cheap. Pack a lot more and you could probably resell it for as much as you bought it for.

I like this idea, especially since you keep saying you’ll only use it for business stuff. Just watch out for the GVWR on the truck and the commercial license requirements. (Technically you’d also need to pay attention on a truck and trailer too when using it for business purposes)

PS. when you are done moving stuff you could turn it into a mini home.

We thought about that with a sprinter van. After it gets old enough turn it into a mini camper.

I like the flat truck idea. Then sell it when done.
