When it comes to belts and hoses, I have all the connections. Beyond that, not much

Scag part # 483172
Cogged drive belt, 5/8" wide, 65-7/8" length

So the belt you put on is nearly 2" too short.

So according to my friend, SCAG mowers are really hard on belts.

6911BR is what it calls for right now, but we have a new construction coming out to better handle SCAG mowers. That new number 7185BR.

This just happened about 3 weeks ago, so it hasn't even been updated on gates.com yet...

You need a 64.89" length belt. I'm trying to see when the new one will be available (none in inventory right now).

Short term the 6911BR will work, it just won't last very long. He said the new belt is thinner to help prevent the belt from cracking "when bent around their stupid pulley set up" (direct quote from him :lol :) .

This is for the hydraulic pump.

Diving into this further, there are 3 belts on your lawn mower. One that drives the blades, a secondary blade belt, and one that drives the hydraulic pump.

SCAGs OE PNs are:
483172 - This is for the hydraulic pump. This is is 65.8" long (Gates PN 7081BR which superseded 6912BR)
483157 - This is for the deck drive RH side. This is 65.25" long (Gates PN 6911BR will be superseded by 7185BR)
483243 - This is the maid deck drive belt. This one is 136" long (Gates PN 6785BR)

scagparts.net is where you can buy any of the OE belts.

At any rate if you put a 64" belt on either of the shorter belts, it is way too short and that's why you're smelling rubber. At minimum I would put a 65" belt on there, but preferably the correct size.

So Coop, which belt is the one that came off, the shorter deck belt, or the hydraulic pump drive belt?

Since he had to tow it, I assumed it was the hydraulic pump belt.

That's an excellent point. This is what happens when you try to BAWC when you're not really bored at work

Coop,

I think I can get you a 7081BR (drive pump belt) and a 7185BR (shorter blade drive belt) for a "field test". PM me your address, it will take a couple weeks to get them to you, but you can try them, and let me know how they work out, and you get 2 free belts :) .

First belt acquired. They actually have to build the second belt. Once I have the second one I'll get them sent over. Legit going to need to know how long they last, performance, etc. :)

FYI this is not a normal thing. Coop just got really lucky in that we literally changed this construction in the last 3 weeks because of complaints from the field of belts failing early.

This is true. It’s also true I have the wrong belt in. Mine is not that sort of rubber.

I shipped the pump drive belt today. They still haven't built the secondary blade drive belt yet. When they get that built, I'll ship one of those too. Let me know how the pump drive belt fits as soon as you get it on, the aftermarket guy wants to double confirm it is the right size.
