Come and get 'em. Mine is a 2000 Polaris XCR-800 (which is a triple-cylinder, triple-pipe, 2-stroke 160hp motor in a trail sled chassis), and my wife's is a 1999 Arctic Cat ZL-600 trail sled. On an aluminum covered trailer. Take that too. Trailer has been sitting for quite a few years, so not so sure about how far the bearings or tires would make it, but other than that...

If Coop doesn’t want them, I’ll take them! I’ll keep them at my parents house in Michigan. We used to have sleds and my dad has been talking about getting another one or 2 to take the grandkids out on

It's the same here in Arkansas, I do understand. But I'd be willing to be that riding a snowmobile on the road is illegal in TN, considering it is illegal in Michigan, except up north, in snow emergencies.

Oh and as for snow driving, a good friend of mine used to have a 99 Silverado 1500, 5.3L, 4WD. He made it to work when we got 26" of snow in Arkansas. There are some good hills between where he lived and work. Also, when he drove in in the morning, they hadn't plowed, and he said he was plowing snow with his truck (probably 16" deep at that point). He picked me up the next day, and gave me a ride to work, most streets still had not been plowed at that point. He had good tires and that was it. So as long as you park at the top of your driveway, you should be fine I think.

That is nice to hear. I am still thinking about an electronic locker if I need it, and a recovery winch up front.

Lots of them have big trucks, most don’t love out as far as I do, so they do not have the hills and stuff I do. But a lot of them drive jeeps and a lot have aftermarket lifts and tires. Going in the night before is a big option for anyone who doesn’t.

I’m not saying a regular avalanche wouldn’t make it in, I’m saying what would make it better.

Also, as an FYI, when Top Gear drove to the NORTH POLE, they didn't do much to the drivetrain of the Hilux. They upgraded the suspension and tires (and everything else to accommodate said tires), and added an air locker to the front axle, but the Hilux already had a mechanical locker in the rear. So they had a mechanical locker in the rear with 4.88 gears, an air locker in the front, and bad ass snow tires. This let them drive to the NORTH POLE. I don't think TN will see anything close to that type of weather

Also, people drive in the type of weather you are describing all the time in the North, with stock cars, without much issue. The roads up North are not miraculously plowed as soon as it starts snowing. Sure they get plowed eventually, but it is not like they are clear from the get go.

Get yourself a set of good snow tires. Get a set of chains for when it is going to be "bad". Doubt you'd ever get stuck with just this, even with open diffs.

You're thinking about going this hard core over 6" of snow? Tahoe got around 15 feet of snow in the last 2 weeks and no one uses hard core off road trucks to get around. Tahoe doesn't use salt, just sand.

Dude, seriously. Good tires, maybe a locker, 4wd, ground clearance. All you need. When I had the LJ I used to go off-roading in the mountains in the snow. Deep snow, off-road. Barely used the lockers. Just had some good chunky mud terrain tires and kept up with everyone. Only needed locker maybe 1-2x and that was to get over big ass ice and snow covered rocks. Talking 12+ inches of deep snow. You are way over thinking this.

When I worked at the zoo I had to get there, no matter what. The Jeep got me there, each and every time, even when we had a bad snow storm, and even before the plows hit the roads. Off-roading in deep snow and inclines far worse than your driveway the Jeep made it just fine.

You want an avalanche. Get an avalanche. First thing to do, in order to make sure you get to where you need to be is get tires. Then look into a rear locker. Don't really need the front as much, but if you want, since this is your rig, do whatever the hell you want. Will it be overkill? Yes. But what does it matter. It will be YOUR truck/rig. Then look at recovery points and a winch. Going to be a heavy ass rig so make sure you get a good winch. I recommend Warn if you have the money. Not sure what your chain laws are out there, but those help too.

I’m not I’m just tired of people saying you will be fine. I have lived out here my whole life. We have been stuck. We have been snowed in. I can’t be. Period. I don’t know what I need to not be snowed in but I want to.

Yes tires will be number 1. Always have been. The driveway doesn’t get driven in the snow. If it starts or know it’s coming we park up top.

Is there anything that can help combat the weight of the vehicle. That was the main thing that sucked in the Humvee. Light snow that thing sucked to drive as if it started to slide then just hold on as it weighs so much. Is that chains? Is that gearing? Is that tire pressure? Or just can’t really do anything about that?

It's simple, don't come in asking for advice and get all pissy when people give you advice. Don't get mad when people don't agree with what you THINK you need to drive in 6" of snow.

Plain and simple you don't need lockers, and all the other bullshit to drive in snow. I drove in 6" of snow multiple times in my Mazda 626 in Wichita KS (where they don't plow), my Saturn SL2 in Arkansas (where they don't plow), my 91 Grand Marquie (RWD V8) in Michigan, and my Stealth in Michigan, where they don't plow and I had summer tires on it.

Like Chris said, Tahoe got 15 FEET of snow, and people weren't driving around with hardcore off road trucks. And the north has plenty of hills. Northern Michigan is quite hilly, so is Wisconsin, New York, Colorado has some pretty big hills (bigger than TN I think?), and so does Northern California.

Get good tires, and maybe a set of tire chains for when it is "really bad", and you should be able to make it to work, or wherever any time.
