I have to admit, I am a little jealous right now. If I wasn't looking to move I would probably be getting something too.

I told Vira to take the Vette to work. She has a really short commute, but she's still scared of something happening to it. So it's tucked away in the garage for now.

You'll get there. You'll end up with some beautiful house on a gorgeous piece of land and then I'll get to be the one who's jealous but also happy for you.

Very freaking cool! I'm glad you finally got something you wanted (that's not a toy). I will own a vette one day, they are just too bad ass not to own one.

How much does it cost to do a clear vinyl covering for the entire car? Because my car has that. I'm pretty sure it was a pre-cut kit due to the perfectly rounded corners on all the pieces.

I haven't gone over it with a magnifying glass, but it looks like it was perfectly installed. That couldn't have been cheap.

Lots! A friend of ours offered to do the front of our Outback to the doors for his cost of materials. It was like $1500.

I just did the front of my truck. Asked the guy at the shop I was at about the Ferrari outside. Said it was his customers. Charged him 5k for the whole clear wrap. Yours should be close to that.

That was an interesting read. Seems like they made fairly typical compromises on the brakes.

Yep. I'm just glad they went with a standard pad design.

The Z51 brakes have easily taken everything I've thrown at them. I haven't done a full-on track day sort of scenario, but anything you'd ever see on the street or a dragstrip is cake for them. Ripping around on country backroads and doing hard braking for corners doesn't even tax them.

The stock pads throw off dust there's no tomorrow. I'd recommend ceramic coating your wheels, if they aren't already. Carbotech also has a pad that seems to work well and keep the dust down, though I still have the original pads on my car.

I dunno. There wasn't much I could have done to mine to make it faster without dropping 10 grand on a supercharger.

This is pretty interesting. I was wondering what these safety wired parts were on the front rotors. (Yes, the wheels are dirty. CarMax did a decent job, but I need to give them a proper wash. )


It's part of the track prep package you get with the Z51 option. They're aluminum cooling rings. The front of the car has brake cooling ducts. Under street use, some of this air is allowed to pass through the rotor to avoid over-cooling the brakes. Brakes that are too cold don't stop as well.

On the track, the full amount of cooling air is applied to the discs by blocking the pass-through with these rings.

What's interesting is the dealer isn't supposed install them at delivery. It's for the owner to do, and they're supposed to be removed after your track time. The manual says leaving them on can lead to corrosion issues.

So now I'm wondering if someone installed them "just because" or if the car was tracked. I'm more curious than concerned. I'll take them off when I get some jacking pucks.

I thought slotted roters just ended up with less braking area and didn't help with heat or exhaust gasses from the brake pads...or whatever crazy things they use to say about them.
