1. Swift isn't a hybrid
2. My cost of ownership over the last 8 years is less than 2 months of car payments.
3. Once youre on the highway you get the same mpg as I do.

Not getting into comfort of safety aspects. Just talking pure money.

I wasn't comparing to yours. Just stating what I'm getting so far.

That's really good. I've had to sink about $3,700 into a 99 Jetta I bought in 2009 to keep it running.

After assisting my cousin on his A4 a few times I determined I never want a VW/Audi. He really wanted the car when he bought it, he happily traded it away 6 months later.

Only if you are going more than 50 miles between charges. Otherwise it is still all-electric and no gas, regardless of the speed.

After seeing transmissions go out on VW Jettas and Audi A4s that were newer and had way less miles than mine there's no way I'd ever consider an AT vehicle from VW. I'm pretty sure the only reasons why mine's still on the road at age 17 is because I don't drive crazy, I've lived really, really close to work (i.e. kept the mileage relatively low), and it's a manual. Still, $3700 over 7 years and 36,000 miles seems excessive (had 133,000 when I bought it; 169 now).

How is the maintenance on these GMs like the Volt?

By highway I meant actual distance. 50 miles is nothing around here

Very simple transmission with not much to go wrong, brakes are used less since it prefers to charge the batteries with regenerative braking, oil changes once in a blue moon since the gas generator runs rarely (unless you are taking a lot of trips over 50 miles). All the general maintenance type things are extended by quite a bit over a conventional vehicle. The main thing is probably replacing tires, which would happen same as on any vehicle.

Do it.

The only thing so far I don't like is the back up camera. Very low quality.

Audi is back in the shop. Clutch issues. Another 2+ weeks without the car. This is not what I paid $35k for. I'm going to see what they'll give me on trade when I go to pick it up.

Yeah, that Audi/VW reliability is really a downer. Nice cars otherwise.

$30k for the car + $3500 for the warranty. $250 deductible. The warranty has more than paid for itself now. It's the extended periods of downtime that's pissing me off. All the research I did said these were solid cars. Either nobody owns an older one, or I just got a bad example. Oh well. I'd been thinking of selling it even before this happened. I'll do what I should have done in the first place and buy something practical.

:highfive:

In 11 years I've put almost 100,000 miles on my TT. Yes rebuilt the engine once, but that has a lot to do with it didn't have the original motor in the car when I got it (didn't find that out till the rebuild), and I'm not sure what condition it was in when I got it.

Still had to quite a bit of maintenance, and it would be down for a week here or there, but that's why I always had a second car to drive. There was a small period in there where I only had the Stealth in Wichita and daily drove it, and had no issues.

jesus, we have all daily driven our 3/s's at some point. I did for a year when I bought it....I did for a good 6 months after I built it.

But they are going to need work, and you have to be mechanically incline to do so. So most people should not have them as a daily driver.

My black Stealth was very reliable until I started to fuck it up.
