Whenever you use forceful and overt verbal persuasion to try to convince others to see things your way, they're probably not listening to what you say, Instead they're looking for every error in you your logic and mistakes in your facts, all the while constructing counterarguments. Worse still, they don't merely believe you're wrong; they need you to be wrong in order to protect the status quo. And since the final judge exists in their own head, you lose every time. - The Influencer
Is the level of bullshit you have to go through to change things in a direction you want, less than than or equal than the level of current bullshit?

I've had my Specialized StumpJumper since 99 or so, and My Gary Fisher Hi-Fi Deluxe since 09. I used to ride all the time until I broke my elbow. Never really got back into it in the same way after.

Can't find anything around here the last couple of months - new or used.

Only been out twice - but already started catching air on some jumps while giggling like a schoolgirl haha.

Nice I still have an old 96 stumpy as well. It needs some serious attention though. You should try and get back into it. I forgot how much I enjoy riding.

One I found padded underwear, man that’s a game changer!

Some random dude decided it was a good idea to swing at me (arms and fists) and I passed by him on my 20 mile bike ride. He struck me on my arm and my upper back. Almost knocked me off the bike.

Hate to say it.. but welcome to the life of cyclists. I have been hit on the arm by the mirror of a Ford F-150. I have had items (including a slice of bread) thrown at me. I have had people intentionally swerve to try to scare me, pass me so close to "prove a point and show how tough they are", yell at me.. an old lady almost took out Beth as she pulled into a parking area in between myself and Beth (I was in front, Beth right behind me and the old lady had been behind Beth for a bit.. passed her then immediately pulled to the right). I have friends who barely survived being ran over. I have acquaintances who have been killed. I have friends who have been physically assaulted, and verbal assaults is almost a daily thing for us.

It sucks.

I am glad you are ok.

Yea, i dont get it as it all doesn't add up to physically assaulting someone.

Most of my regular route I take is bike paths that are light traffic. There is however a short section of my ride that has no path, but a narrow bike lane, and car lanes where motorists exceed 50 mph through blind turns and its sketchy as a biker. That same stretch of sidewalk is quite large and you usually dont run into any pedestrians for the whole 1/4 mile. Lately I have been taking that sidewalk because its a lot less dangerous and when I have my boys in the bike carrier its the only area large enough to fit them.

Well, its was 7:30 am Saturday and like usual I took the sidewalk for that short stretch because its much safer and in the distance I could only spot 2 people the whole way. As i get closer to this one individual I move as far to the edge of the sidewalk as i can, giving him ample space as I pass by. He proceeds to stay right in the middle making it impossible to pass, then he comes over to my end as im starting to run out of room to pass safely. "This is odd", i think to myself, so I abruptly bank inwards and pass him on the inner side of the sidewalk.

While approaching the last couple feet I see his lips flapping and his hands shaking at me. He was clearly upset about something. Then right as im passing hes coming back towards me screaming "OFF THE SIDEWALK". At this point his flapping hands abruptly turn into fists and I see him wind up as I pass. He strikes me on my shoulder and my upper back with most of his energy. This almost knocks me off the sidewalk and off my bike. Luckily i had my Camelback on and loaded with water to help absorb the blow.

Shocked, I lock the brakes and come to a stop. Dude sees me stop and keeps walking in the other direction. Boy did i come close to dismounting my bike. Male version of Karen, lets call him Darren, proceeds to yell more and say I can get a ticket for being on the side walk. I proceeded to curse his ass out and let him know i moved 3 times to accommodate him. And let him know physically assaulting someone isn't the answer. He then threatened to call the cops and have them write me a citation. I was like, "great do that, Ill take the sidewalk ticket while they haul your ass down to the pin for physically assaulting someone". Right about then he shut up and kept walking until the sidewalk opened up to a parking lot and exited stage left.

WTF is wrong with people? Where do you get the balls to physically harm someone because of something so trivial. This whole scenario could have ended much worse than it did for him, or I. Just because I was on a sidewalk and attempting to accommodate him several times.

Part of me wishes i would have just beat his boomer ass.

The irony is - most of the time I get yelled to get ON the sidewalk.. That guy sounds like a complete and total lunatic.

I almost got hit running the other week. Road has 2 lanes in each direction and a sidewalk. I was running on the sidewalk and met an elderly lady out for a walk. Looked behind me, saw one car way back and jumped out into the lane to give her space (both because of social distancing and because I was sweaty so wanted to not get too close to them for that as well). Car comes flying up, lady starts screaming and panicking and the car doesn't bother changing over to the left lane even though there were NO OTHER CARS around. I don't know how far away from me he was but it was very close. I almost hurled my water bottle at it but it was strapped to my hand. The idiot then proceeds to pull into a cul-de-sac and I was so tempted to chase him down..

I just don't get people.

I'd have called the cops and followed him if he tried to bail. Or maybe just beat his ass for starting it. I dunno.

Yea, its nuts. Some people want you out of the road and will run you over for being there and apparently others on the side walk take things into their own hands. You cant win.

I had so many scenarios going on in my head. I think it would have went to blows if i followed him. I also think that if i called the cops they would have came and it would have been a he said/ she said ordeal.

I wasn't badly hurt and wanted to finish my ride anyways. I am going to look into a body cam, or some sort of camera to wear on me from now on. Shits ridiculous.

Yeah, camera is probably the best bet so if anything does happen then there's a record of it.

Yeah I am mounting cameras front and back on the bike. Would have done it already if I rode more outside, but people down here are so horrible that I barely dare to go out on the roads.
