Don't take this as too much of an offense Mike but you are coming across like a total asshole in your car comments most of the time.. How you constantly throw out numbers of friends' cars and pretty much talk down about every other car on here (feel free to talk down about my grandpamobile though!) can get pretty old. The comments are pretty abrasive.
And slow is most definitely subjective.
Not sure how conscious you are of it Mike but its true and unflattering.

There are those same circles around here. They are all pricks and nobody really cares how fast they are because of it.
Yes...but to be fair so is Faster ≠ more fun. Fun for me is winning, being faster than the next guy with a rock solid car that does what I tell it to, when I tell it to do it. Fun for someone else might be rowing their own gears but coming in dead fucking last.
Fun is subjective, slow is universal.
If winning is all that matters you'd better sell the Vette and buy a top fuel dragster and compete with the best of the best. How do I know that faster isn't more fun? Simple, my 3000GT made more HP than any of the cars I've had since and I'm confident it would walk away from my Legacy, but yet I find I was the least fun if any of them to drive. Yes it's wholesale subjective.
I honestly don't care if you think the world should be sunshine and rainbows, this is how the car world is. I'm not sure where I've talked down about "every other car on here"....but people feel how they want to feel and I can't change that.
Slow isn't subjective, it's an absolute. I've never had a fast car, so you don't see me going around talking shit about GTRs because they have a DCT vs. a stick.
Any time most people post anything about modding their car your response is pretty much canned, "a Vette can make so much more hp than that" or something about that. You blew up coops thread with that and several others. It gets old fast.
Ummm...it's this way everywhere. You just don't roll in the same circles and that's fine. Trust me, it's worse on the track. Guys compare lap times like drag guys compare 60ft times.
Careful now Frode... You wouldn't want to have someone shake their finger at you for not liking what they like.
I'm glad my
car friends are not like that at all... In fact none of the road course or the autox events are like that. They've all been "How's your event going? What can I do to help you learn to go faster?" no one has ever talked shit to me because I'm slow or my Miata is slow.
Can't you just appreciate each car for the virtues it offers? If 'fast' is the only virtue you care about, fine...it's your money. I like to think I can appreciate nearly any car for what it offers so long as it's tastefully built and the owner isn't a twat.
I like wagons. So does Billy
Exactly. I'm not asking you to accept the absurdity of stance but there are many different reasons for picking a car and I don't own any of my cars as a dick measuring contest.
I have my cars because they fit my needs better than anything else out there now. And one of those things is affordability. I hold title on all 3 of my cars, if I wad up any of them on a road course, where insurance won't cover a loss, I I can walk away without any problems. Walking away from the Legacy without any money from it would suck hard, but I could do it.
You talked about me being so dismissive about faster not being more fun, yet you consistently do it to anyone who doesn't subscribe to your point of view.
Dude, you don't like me in general...I get it, and I'm over it.I honestly don't give a fuck about your opinion. You're forever chiming in when people take a swipe at me, I never bring you up EVER...that should tell you all you need to know.
I don't know you personally, so I cannot say I really like or dislike you. I trust others opinions on here that you are more enjoyable in person. Despite what you believe I tend to like your aggressive "all in approach". There are however parts of your personality that aren't nearly as flattering and lately have been spewing out on this board.
Lots of good people here who bring something to the table that you and I can learn about. Sure I can give Greg shit about his yellow powder-coated Miata, but in the end he knows its bad ass and that I respect his hard work, time, and attention to the detail. Just like everyone else with their projects. We are all enthusiasts working at our own pace, level, and desire.
PS I actually really liked the days when we both literally ran the AV forum on 3si with all our photography stuff. Good times. Anyways in the past...

Can we get back to drooling over the C7 and calling GTRs ugly?

Opinion (not mine): Faster ≠ more fun....
Fact: GTRs are ugly
Fact: Matt's car is the opposite of ugly

Seriously considered the GT-R instead, but you are correct - it is ugly. Very quick, but they need to update the bodywork - especially the back.

Everything I've read says the Vette is a more enjoyable car to drive. The GTR is too clinical and computerized.

Isn't the GTR something like 30-40k more than the Vette too? Eff that!

For $100K I'd much rather have a M5, F-Type, or even a P85. Don't get me wrong. I like the performance of the GTR and the looks are not that bad, but at that price I would expect more luxury as well as performance.

Maybe I've gotten older and wiser, or maybe just more frugal, but I'd have a real hard time spending $100k on a car. I'm having a difficult time considering a $40k-$45k car.

That is how I feel too. I want the new Golf R, but damn near $40k is rough. For that price I can get a nice used M3 or even an M5.
My wife and I keep talking about kids lately so my mind has been shifting away from cars like Vettes, Mustangs, etc and more to 4-door more practical things that can still be fun. Hence the R.
I do have to say though, I like that Vette. I was not a fan of them for years, but these new ones, now that I have seen them in person, are growing on me.

Presently toying around with the idea of selling the vette, buying a cash car, and throwing 20k cash at a used P85D next year. Why? Because it will absolutely destroy 90% of the cars at the strip, or on the street 0-150.
I would like to see this happen. I don't have the cash flow yet to even think about doing that personally, but would like to actually see someone who has car experience get one and really see what they can do.
