Well, we just got back from looking at that camry...and no we are not getting it, it is in really bad shape and it kept stalling every time we put it in drive.

How about this? Here is the link:
http://madison.craigslist.org/car/366887538.html
Here is a copy of the e-mail me sent me about it:
"vin: 4t1sv22exmu436329. CV: I'm not sure how bad it is but one person who looked at it said he could fix it for $100. Rust: %15-20. Taillight: works but broken. No plates. Nothing else wrong as far as I know. It does need to be jumped though I just went out to look at it and the battery was dead. The title is clear in my name and it's located at"
What do you think?

CV joints aren't that hard to fix (you can do it with a jack and regular tools), and you can get away with driving on bad ones for a while if needed. Sounds like the exhaust is rusted out on the car, that might need to be replaced sooner than later, or maybe you can get away with those exhaust leak kits for $5 at the parts store.

so...is it worth the $450 or not in your opinion?

I live about 100 miles away, so I dont want to drive it and it not be worth it.

the worth of it to me would be completely based on the rust. A CV joint is not a big deal and rusty exhaust is not a big deal (unless it's all falling off, might be $100-150 to have a new cheap one welded in). The only thing I would worry about is rust along the windshield that might let water in while driving in the rain, rust along the trunk that might soak the trunk and make it smell like mildew, then just rust in any structural area or some place where it might eat through...would suck to see your feet from outside the car like half the cars I've seen in Detroit
Ask him to maybe take some pictures or at least to tell you where all of the rust is and if any of it is throug the metal

He only has a camera phone, so the pics are gonna suck. I will ask him about the rust though.

IMO it wasn't worth it anyways...
go for a civic, yeah they are the subject of so many f'ing jokes, but there's also a reason they're in the top ten cars of america.
They are cheap, easy to fix, and easy to sell.

They also cost more than $1000
Anything with a maintained 5SFE or 4AGE motor from Toyota will get you 250-300k miles easy. I don't know how many corrolas I've seen (4AGE) with 400k+ miles on them bouncing off the red limiter at track days.
