My boss got inspired to get "HIS" car recently. I don't think he did too bad. Not a turbo 911 though, but last of the analogue...

Decided to take my first stab at ceramic coatings. Watched some youtube videos and this one appeared to perform well and be easy to apply. Simply spray on a cleaned car, then rub in towl and dry off with another clean towel. Honestly kind of felt like waxing but less pressure.

The product.

I think it did well. I has some really faint micro swirls that are about 90% gone. I hope this holds up at least a year though.

What have your experiences been with Ceramic Coatings?

A real ceramic coating like Gtechniq CSL with a Gtechniq EVO topcoat has lasted nearly 5 years on my stealth. Water still beads really well and I’ve not done any of the suggested “on going” maintenance.

Same coating lasted around 3-4 years on the RS, but I’m really bad about washing it.

When it was brand new going to the quarter place was plenty to get it nearly spotless.

I need to redo the RS at some point. Stealth needs either the body work fixed or wrapped before it gets done again.

Yeah. Aaron is right. Just get real ceramic, it’s worth it.

Glad to see your first had account of it. Did you apply yourself or pay a shop? The topcoat says its good for 6 months. Is that needed or just a nice add on.

Also how does Cerakote compare?

I did it myself. I paint corrected each car too first.

It wasn’t terrible to do. Not as good as a pro, but significantly cheaper! I got a harbor freight buffer, pads from Amazon, and the Gtechniq stuff and applicator stuff from obsessedgarage.com.

I watched a bunch of obsessed garage videos on how to do it and went for it.

Haha, I will likely obsess over a ton of videos myself before doing it as well. $100 a bottle isnt all that cheap either.

Nope but if you take care of it, and wash your car regularly and properly (I didn't do a good job on the RS) it should last 5 years easily. The RS made it 3 years with me sucking at taking care of it.

Yeah. It probably does make it last longer, but parking in a garage and keeping it clean in the first place helps too.

I haven’t hand washed more than 1 or 2 times either vehicle in that time frame. Just quarter place and touchless. Stealth doesn’t really get drive in the rain at all, unless it’s a surprise. RS gets all the weather so it didn’t last as long. Probably would have if I always hand washed and used that spray stuff when drying. But ain’t nobody got time for that

Yea, if they stay clean then not need to go overboard. I wash with a brush in my lawn as I cant stand the automated ones not getting everything thoroughly clean. If i only had to spray once a year then im ok with that.

I'm lazy now and just have a membership to a carwash for the truck and Ascent. The WRX gets washed once a year if it's lucky.
