It's kind of expensive too. But it gives me ideas.

He prob has all sort of clearance issues. You all will not, find a newer plastic tank that is close and modify the two brackets that hold it. A lot easier than drilling a hole and mounting studs, and making sure the depth.....am I the one saying something is too complicated?

This is how the tank fits into the truck, right?



That means the bigger tank won't fit. Based on the diagrams, the big tank is longer, and the fuel level sender installs on the inboard side of the tank instead of the top.

Here's a crazy idea. Mount a 2nd tank on the other side and find some way to rig up a transfer pump to the main tank.

Or just switch from tank 1 too tank 2 like a lot of the diesels do.

That is it. You sure the other is too long. My only concern with having one on the opposite side is that the exhaust will be directly under it. I also kind of want to mount my battery in that location, but obviously away from the exhaust heat.

You go through cars too quick. lol. Being that you have so many of these v6's near you though I would be inclined to jump on one. Hell, that would make 3 of us going through all the fun stuff together.

I might be tempted to squeeze on in if i ever run across one. The factory 15 gallon tank is pretty small for any long hauls with the larger v6's in them.

It is not something I will probably do though. I like the idea of having a truck again, but probably won't do it. At least not for a few years at least. Depends on work and stuff. There is at least 1-2 times a month though I wish I had one to haul stuff with.

That is exactly why I don't drive one. I have a HD 1.5 miles from the house that has two trucks for rent.

That is what I usually do. Renting a van from U-haul for tomorrow actually. For the length of time I need it it is cheaper than homedepot.

Little update. Have had the tank out all week. Had to pressure wash it because of all the rust I found. Had a ton come out. Ended up installing a walbro 255, then rewired and soldered all the cut and spliced electrical the last chimp installed.

Also went to pnp and picked up another sending unit out of a 90 2wd. It was in much better shape than mine. There is a slight difference though. The arm is slightly shorter. Likely due to being a smaller tank. I was going to swap the arms but it is a very delicate and I nearly damaged it. I just tossed it in knowing that true Empty is a ways further.


After the install I've since noticed quite a gain in hp. So much so that it almost feels like a sports car. Lol. Now I've got to tackle my new high idle and find out why the tach reads high.

Do you still need a rear view mirror?

Thanks for the link jeff. I was going to but the montero has the same one but tan looking so I just nabbed it. I've done some improvements to the interior lately. I'll try to update you all soon.

Yea, some kid on the FB group is installing the 1st gen DSM gauge. Seems like it fits with minor housing modification. The hardest part looks to be the wiring.
