So I got tired of the max not starting like it should. Would always take several cranks if not more to get it to putter, die and then eventually start. I had crawled under the truck at some point and noticed that some neanderthal had tweaked most of the hard lines, installed the fuel pump with both crush washers on one side of the banjo bolt, and spliced the electrical with acorns.

Today I decided I had enough and was sold that something went wrong with whomever dropped the tank last. Boy was I right. Have a look.

Please do. There is just so much that this guy did wrong. No sock, ground wire was just that red wire with no fittings on the ends. Just smashed them in the threads. The retaining strap doesn't even touch the pump. Then there is the positive wire that had the boot pulled off, so now the hat has some rust where the wire meets. Finally the hose, which is most visible, has collapsed entirely inside, and split on the outside. No wonder the car didnt ever want to start. There was no path for it to go through.

I also noticed quite a bit of rust in the tank. I can only imagine that happening while the truck sat since 2007. I'm going to pressure wash it this week to get it cleared out.

I just hate when ghetto people start messing with things! At least I got to it before anything else was done.

Think it'd be possible to retrofit a plastic tank from something newer like a Ranger?

Anything is possible, but the dimensions would be the tricky part. Ill have to post up a pic of it when i get home tonight.

BTW I managed to break the plastic connector for the fuel sending unit. Somehow I missed it. I did find it odd though that i couldn't find the plastic broken fragments from it on my driveway. Makes me think I wasn't the first one to miss it.

I am sure you can find a plastic tank fairly easily.

When you have time, can you do a quick favor for me?

I need to know the width of the tailgate, and if you need anything besides basic sockets to remove it.

If i had more time on my hands I would jump on it, but I dont at the moment. Cleaning out this one and reinstalling will do fine.

Ill check dimensions when i get home tonight. They are super easy to remove. Cables on the sides and just the two hinges at the bottom. Willing to bet they are 4x bolts #14.

Also since we are talking about tailgates...Cherry Hill can still get you the large MITSUBISHI rear sticker. Its on back-order though and the rest are gone. There is a guy on FB that prints the Mighty Max sticker for $10 shipped. Nobody makes the V6, but I think i have the same guy who makes the MM sticker on the hook to make ours once I get him the dimensions.

I have a vinyl cutter. If jeff wants it, I can make him one that says MAD JEFF

I'm thinking on mine, I'll just keep it blank aside from a big Mitsu emblem right in the middle. I can get one off of a Raider (Dakota) pickup or something.

Im pretty good at being nice. Did you say you have the printing capability too?

If you dont want to wait for the $20 OEM large Misu sticker there is a guy up-selling them for $30 on FB too. Really not a bad deal.

I don't have a vinyl cutter. Detroit Steve does, as does Coop. I think Steve would have a better selection of materials since he does it professionally.
