Mitsubishi Mighty Max

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
Mainly just the front body work. Fenders, hood, grille. The extra width can be fixed with a set of fender flares.
I doubt it's a direct bolt on, but I'm wondering if it could be made to work without too much hacking. Don't put too much time into it. Just eyeball it and maybe take a couple of measurements to see if it's even in the ballpark.

I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Whenever. It's just a curiosity right now. My big problem is still the truck itself

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
Front end swap won't work easy. Nothing lines up. Most everything is 2 plus inches off.
In other news pick and pull is having their 50% off sale this weekend so a friend and I made the best of it. Ended up picking up another V5MT1-1 trans and tc. Stout heavy thing.

Hoping I won't need it but it's nice to know I have a backup just in case I frag mine.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
Nice. Run that thing through a power washer and it'll be good to go.
I wonder how much torque that thing can take?

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
Not really sure. Couldn't get any good answers. So far nobody has put any real power through it. No doubt the solid cast iron case will be able to handle high hp. The question I have is how strong the internal gears are. I'm not sold yet that they are designed to handle over 300-400 hp.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
I keep thinking of how I shredded 3rd gear on my old turbo ES. I'm lucky I didn't get in a bad wreck since I was doing over 80 when it let go. That was at ~280 ft-lbs.
I'd hope this is built a little more stout than a little FWD car tranny. I was reading the T in the model code means it was designed by the Mitsu truck and bus division rather than the passenger car division. It MAY have been used in the Canter line of commercial trucks. That's promising.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
I sure hope so. Last thing I want is the trans or tc to go out at those speeds. I think it's going to take a TT build to test the limits of this trans. Probably part of why Im going the 75 mivec route for mine. I want something reliable and fast.

I shredded 2nd in the SOHC with under 200 ft-lb. I'd sure hope the trucks are built a little more stout.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
Surly a truck, knowing it would be towing, would make everything stronger.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
The tow rating on a Max is only 2000 lbs, if the internet is right.
Most trucks are usually under-rated, but it'd still be nice to have an official rating from Mitsubishi.
It's probably a good thing Steve has a spare.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
The 4cyl are 2,000. The v6 were right around 3,800 iirc. Yes it's a spare but I've also been thinking about another project down the line.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
Great photos. It makes me wish I had something like that near me.
But Coop is right....hiding your plate is silly. I'd make a game out of linking my address to the plate on one of my cars, but several BAWC members have been to my house.
I have to give special credit to that creeper Ryan though. He went and Google stalked us and got our address without the help of license plates
That gives me an idea for a fun challenge. Maybe I'll make a thread about it tomorrow.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
Thanks guys. Had a fun afternoon climbing the hill behind our subdivision. Mostly wanted to see how the MM did compared to the XJ. A very capable truck in stock form.
You already have my address Jeff lol. Ill probably link some of these to other large forums one day so I figured I'd make a jump start. I know it's not fool proof.
