The bigger problem is the roof rack. I don't know who thought this was a good idea, but it's definitely not.

It's got a leg clamped down into the metal C channel on the roof, so it wasn't going to come off, but it moves around a lot more than it should. We're not putting anything else up there until we get an OEM rack that fits properly.

In the near term, I need to replace one of the lower ball joints so we can go do that off road class. While I was setting that up, I found out the tow hooks double as cup holders.
That roof rack is scary!

Gotta love built in hidden cup holders.

Roof racks in general seem to be expensive. I want one for the XJ, but ugh, so expensive for such a simple product.

This. The one for my Focuii was expensive for what it is.

Have you looked into stroker vs turbo? Don't know enough about what engine that has, but for bang for the buck at least, in my XJ, stroker is better than turbo for power.

I haven't looked into either option. It was just for laughs. If we end up loving it enough that we think it needs a power upgrade, we'll probably just sell it and buy an Alpha.

This is what I've been noticing people suggest when upgrades are mentioned. 'Just get an Alpha'

AKA...'Just get a VR4/RTTT'. :p

Yep. There's plenty out there, and they're not that expensive.

One of the fun things about buying a used vehicle is finding all the ghetto shit previous owners did to it

It has 5 horns. They're different tones, so actually sounds halfway decent. It's just not very loud. I'm surprised the fuse hasn't blown.

Image

The speakers are nice too. :p

But it's coming together nicely. We replaced the drivers inner door panel to fix some weird clear lacquer that got on it. Vira's been doing a great job cleaning up all the black trim on the outside. The roof rack is off, and we're searching for an OEM one. There's a few out there, but shipping is pretty steep.

There's some inexpensive Chinese copies of the factory rack, but I really worry about safety with stuff like that. Am I overthinking it? Would it really be that much worse than a ~10 year old, used OEM part?

We're also looking for a decent condition 35" tire to use as a spare, as well as an OEM brush guard. I thought we had the tire taken care of, but the Craigslist guy ghosted us for no apparent reason. I didn't even try to haggle him. Oh well. The search continues.

That speaker...man. That would have me nervous and wanting to pull every panel to see how deep the “infection” is. I really hope they didn’t do anything to compromise your truck.

The only structural and mechanical things I'm worried about are a slightly rusted torsion arm, and the power steering leak. I can deal with both of those pretty easily.
