I know you are not on Facebook, but there are some good off-roading groups on there. Find some and go out with them too. They are usually really good about showing people the ropes and getting you safely up and down the trails.

Vira's got a friend at work who's into overlanding with his Nissan Frontier. He's given her invites to a half dozen groups.
IIm missing what you all are saying though.
The way you're trying to define full-time AWD is actually a 4x4 system with triple lockers. The only way you'll ever get all 4 wheels getting power regardless of the situation is if you lock the front, center and rear differentials. But when you do that you cannot turn the vehicle while they are all locked.
The problem is your definition is not the common or even considered correct by anyone.
what kind of diffs? torsen?
IIRC the H1 uses 3 torsen with the center being locking and with a low range.

My parents had a Suburban that I used to drive to work at 3am in the snow. That's my experience with 4x4 trucking. I think that's why I'm okay with the size of the H3.

I guess this was technically my first 4x4 (and first car) but the 4WD never worked during my ownership.

AMC Eagle. It's sort of like a car with Jeep bones. Most of the ones you see are 4 door wagons. I had the SX4 coupe. When I have a house with some land where I can park weird shit, I'll have another one.

That is actually pretty cool. I've thought about installing the newer 97-01 Cherokee engine, trans, etc into it and seeing how much better it would perform.

My aunt had the 4 door version of that and I remember many miles traveled in it.

This weekend we liberated Vira's dad's kayak from storage so we could see what it would take to load it on top of the truck. It fits just fine, but it's a lot heavier than it looks. The weight combined with the height of the truck makes it a real pain to get it loaded without dragging it across the painted edge of the roof. I've got some ideas about fixing that later on.
The bigger problem is the roof rack. I don't know who thought this was a good idea, but it's definitely not.
It's got a leg clamped down into the metal C channel on the roof, so it wasn't going to come off, but it moves around a lot more than it should. We're not putting anything else up there until we get an OEM rack that fits properly.
Speaking of OEM parts, I can't believe the prices on used parts for this thing. GM built roughly 155k of them. Every single one had roof rails, even if they didn't have the rack. Why the hell am I looking at a minimum of $400 to replace that plastic trim? OEM roof rack bars are $250-500. Chinese knock offs are ~$90. I think for now I'm just going to cover up the gouges and wait until one pops up at a Pick n Pull. I'm probably going to get an OEM rack just for safety reasons. I can try to find some deals over the winter.
In the near term, I need to replace one of the lower ball joints so we can go do that off road class. While I was setting that up, I found out the tow hooks double as cup holders.

Something is up with the site they're hosted from. HostRocket has been making a lot of changes lately. Try again later, I guess.
