Anything 12+ it seems is decent for a f150 as long as it's speced with the payload package and 3.73 gears. Tow 10-11k and roughly upper 2ks into 3ks payload.

In the trims you’re looking at you should be fine. My truck has all that (not the super heavy duty payload 7 lug option) and only has 1188lbs of payload.

Xlt for the most part. 5.0 with payload package. Super or crew cab. Prefer super with 8 ft bed but hard to find. Could deal with 6.5 bed
No way I'd get a 5ft bed though.

Yeah, my point was watch the payload sticker.

Also your holy grail in a 12th gen F150 would be a 7 lug super cab with the 8 ft bed.

I might know a guy who routinely put 2200+lbs in the bed of his lowered s10.

With a 2.5, ac, and ps. Legend has it the truck handled the weight. Hills were a chore. That thing was singing at 4k+ for some of them.

I do really like the interior upgrades to the 15+ though

I’m kinda split on it. I dont like the door cards and where the window/mirror controls are at all, but like how they pulled the heated and cooled seats out of the infotainment screen.

Drove mainly 12-13 f150 for work, up to 10 hrs at a time. Then drove a 2019 or so down to so cal and back. The newer one was so much nicer.

That said I do need to get behind the wheel of a newer gm. The silverado I rented a couple months back was a base model 2017. Would like to see a decent mid level trim.

Really been looking at the 2015+ F150s. I know I can get something older for a lot cheaper, but I also don't want to buy another 20 yr old vehicle. Want something newer, safer, more comfortable, etc.

So pretty set on that.

However I am trying to decide between the 5.0 and 3.5 Ecoboost. Looks like starting in 2017 they started to put the 2nd gen EB in the F-150 that took care of some of the known issues? Seeing first gen problems with the timing chains, turbo failure, carbon buildup, etc.

I would hate to pass on a truck that ticks all the boxes, but has the EB instead of the 5.0. Apparently the 5.0 has some issues as well.

The 5.0 had some infrequent but severe issues in early 11 builds that mostly went away between 12 and 17. Then when Ford changed the cylinder liners and added direct injection they started having issues where the 5.0 uses a lot of oil. I believe that change occurred in 18.

I've been kinda shopping for an Ecoboost because they tow so much better than the 5.0, but insist on starting it cold yourself. If it has timing chain issues they present on a cold start after sitting overnight.

Research online is showing about same MPG, same reliability (as long as 15-17 5.0 or 17+ EB), close to same towing, etc. Biggest difference is payload. 5.0 can put more in the bed. That might be the deciding factor for me.

The eco boost likely has a heavier front end where what you can put in the bed is about the same.

I vote 5.0 as it’s simpler setup and less maintenance over time. Can also run cheap gas all the time. Can’t recall if the ecoboost is as resilient that way.

Ecoboost can run on regular but requires premium for it's Mac performance

I want an ecoboost f150. If I had known when I bought my escape that I was gonna be done driving so far I would have bought an f150.

I vote the 5.0 if you are gonna buy one with higher miles though.
