Update:
Had some time this weekend to work on the Monti. As some may already know, I have swapped out the drivers exhaust manifold and the truck is much quieter.
The other project I've been waiting to tackle are my front brakes and calipers. I picked some 2001 Sport Montero's last week and got to work installing them. There are several benefits to the sport calipers and rotors. 1) You get a larger diameter rotor. 2) You get 2 piston calipers vs just the 1.
Here is a picture of the rotors side to side. Max on right.
Install is pretty straightforward with just having to pull everything off the hub. I should have used the stock hubs as they are thicker and don't have a weird taper that cause the Toyota wheels to get pinched on. I later had to grind off the lip you can see in the second pic. Ive also kept the auto hubs for now. I have a set of the rare Aisin manual locking hubs but need to clean and rebuild them to do it right. They are supposidly stronger, but with my small SWB and moderate driving I like staying in the cab and having it work on the fly for now. Good news is that its a quick swap out if I grow tired of them.
Back on and ready for a test drive. These are 18" wheels, and I think the sport rotors help fill in that gap a bit better. Braking is improved as well.

Nice! Around here the foothills got hammered and local authorities asked everyone to stay away, so I figured I'd be the only one to actually heed the warning lol. Next storm looks to melt most of the snow below 4500ft.

Thanks. Yea I went up dog valley road where you and I went. I didn’t leave the city though. Lots of people on the dirt road further up. Plenty of emergency rescues this week as people use their gps to circumvent i80 when closed. Little do they realize that dog valley is always worse.

If you make another one, maybe check out the compression settings. It seemed a bit over-compressed and pixelated in a few spots. But that's just picking nits.

Monti oil pump decided to get the fits. Runs fine and has pressure, but I've got a heavy leak coming from the drivers side of the pump where it meets the block. Pump is pretty new, but im betting its a crap gasket that was supplied.
Its looking like I will have to pull the motor up to drop the pan to slide back off the pump and reinstall the new gasket. Not happy about this...

Update on the leaking oil pump. Spent Sunday working on it finally since the weather was nice again.
Sucks that you have to remove so many things to get the oil pump off. Remove exhaust, motor mounts, drop pan, lift engine to gain enough clearance to remove oil pickup. Ugh!
Oil pump off. Mind you this was new along with all the other parts of the rebuild. PSI was strong too. Gasket however...pure trash.
How it looked once removed.
The failed paper gasket right around the dowel. The paper was really brittle, but i think the main problem is just how thin the gasket was between the oil passage and the dowel.
New quality gasket installed.
Much more material between the passage and the dowel. Beck and Arnley to the rescue.
Got as far as putting most of everything I took off that day back on. Still need to time, add oil, put all the accessories on. Probably just get the timing belt on with oil next just to make sure it runs and doesn't leak.
Need to get this truck back out on the road!
