Personally I'd get a used 250 for that price. If you are willing to go diesel or a little mileage there are plenty of good examples out there for that price right now. With the 250 you would have more than enough payload for future needs and if you are willing to go cheaper it saves money for you to fix the Subaru for daily driving.

The problem is that 17-22 F250s I need a Lariat and most of them are diesel. My use case doesn't require diesel, and the cost of maintenance and repairs for diesel is sky high. Lower mileage ones are basically at the very top of my price range and since new qualify for a low APR (1.9%) for 72 months it's basically a $3-4k swing.

If you think the 150 is all you would ever need, go for it. I debated on one before I got the 250 but other than piss poor mpg I have no regrets. Have went way over 150 payload multiple times.

I’ve been a fan of the f250 gas burner and the wrx daily.

The F250 isnt bad as i had my gasser for several years for work. The 150 is quite a bit more nimble and just a smoother driving experience. I get him wanting to keep it in that realm.
