Cars are made to be driven. If I'm spending a bunch of money on a car, I'm gonna drive hell out of it. Take my Stealth for example, bought it in 2005, and in the 12 years (holy crap!) I've owned it, I've put just under 100,000 miles on it, and it's been down for the past year!

Hmm, I only put about 30,000 miles on my Spyder in the 18 years I've owned it. Most of those in the first couple years.

I guess I'm "one of those guys" after all. lol.

...but let me tell you, those 30,000 miles are HARD miles. :)

I think it depends on how many vehicles you have. My red XJ since we got it 10-11 years ago, we only put about 40k miles on it, if that. Never used it for long trips and it sat for a couple years without driving it at all since we always had multiple vehicles. Now it is sitting again. We will probably use it a bit this winter, but that is about it. It is just nice to have something with 4WD should the weather get bad or if we want to go somewhere the soul or volt won't make it.

But that's not because you're trying to preserve it in some kind of bubble. You've just got other cars to spread the fun around to.

Funny you say that, as I happened to be looking at one of these for winter storage:

Wouldn't a basic car cover be fine for indoor use?

That's what I used last year, and have on it right now. But bubble...

Keeping dust/dirt off it, clean air circulating so the interior can't get musty if the humidity goes up in the garage, rodent protection, etc.

I dunno.... I didn't have any issues last year, so I'm sure it is fine with just the soft cover over it.

I'd avoid the bubble at all costs unless you can visually check on your car regularly. A buddy put his low mileage stealth tt in one in his parents barn. Guess the barn lost power for a few weeks (or longer?) and no one caught it until it was too late. Moisture trapped inside the deflated bubble molded his entire leather interior.

That's a good point. My back garage is heated and has a security camera in there that I can see from anywhere on my phone. There's also temperature monitoring and my home automation system alerts me if it loses touch with the camera or sensors so if the power was out back there I'd know. I can move my camera higher to see the Corvette. Right now the Spyder on the MaxJax is in the way.

Can you confirm something for me, Matt? Is the RPO label under the trunk carpet on the right side? I had one guy tell me he didn't want to 'take things apart' to get to it. I thought all you had to do was flip up the carpet and it was stuck to the battery lid.

Best info I found was:

I just found the sticker. It is in the cargo compartment under the cargo cover, middle rear just to the left of the battery as you face the rear of the car. You have to pry up the cargo cover. I've got the color code. The sticker says BC/CC U636R which translates to code WA636R for Blade Silver Metallic. Tnx for help!

Mine is tucked away and have a lot going on today so probably won't get out there to look.

So I've got an itch to scratch.

If it's not too much trouble, can you get me photos of the service manual pages that show how the PDR and associated parts are wired in? If it's more than 3-4 pages, don't worry about it. I'll try to get the info elsewhere.

Look, my plan all along was to try to upgrade to the IO5 infotainment system so I could get Android Auto. As far as I can tell, that also includes most of the hardware needed for the Performance Data Recorder.

According to the minimal info I can find on the topic, the PDR won't enable on cars that weren't equipped with it to begin with. Maybe someone just needs to look at the topic a little harder :D

I'm not planning on doing it any time soon, and maybe it's completely impossible. But it doesn't cost me anything to look.

I'm not criticizing you, I think it's awesome and it entertains me :)

I found a physical mounting diagram, but that's about it so far. It mounts on the passenger side footwell against the firewall. There's a bracket of some sort of it mounts to. From the image, it looks like there are three harnesses that connect to it. I'd guess one is the CAN/ECU connections, one is the HD camera behind the rearview mirror, and the other to the Infotainment screen.

I'll see if I can dig up more later today... The books are huge, and the index wasn't immediately useful.

Don't sink too much time into it. I don't expect you to go hunting through the books if it's not immediately apparent.

It's interesting that the mirror housing in my car has the cutout for the camera. I think they planned to offer it on the 2014 cars but it just wasn't ready in time.

This might be the better way of doing it anyway.
