Too true.
I remember having a conversation with a guy that I worked with who had previously worked at a place where they assembled some kind of circuit breaker boards or something. He said they would get drawings from the engineers on how to assemble something and have to go back to the engineers to tell them it would not work they way they designed it.
The engineers would argue "Well it works on my drawing."

That was true right up until the time Sears started moving more and more Craftsman stuff to China. It wasn't that much better than the HF stuff to begin with, but at least you were paying a bit of a premium for something made in the US.

Yeah, the new Craftsman stuff is basically Harbor Freight quality for a lot of it. No reason to pay a premium for the Craftsman name. If you were going to do that, you might as well step up to the Snap-On stuff and get quality tools.

Is it odd that I'm trusting more and more hf tools over my craftsman? Don't get me wrong hf still makes some crap items but their wrenches, sockets, ratchets that are still made in Taiwan are the bomb.

A lot of HF stuff is pretty damn good for a home mechanic. The only stuff I've really had problems with is their hydraulic stuff. My 20ton press and my engine house both ended up with leaking rams. The hoist didn't see a ton of use, but we beat the shit out of the press.
Their stuff is so cheap, it was easier to just buy new rams rather than track down seals and rebuild the existing ones.
