Not an easy swap. Looked into it before. Seriously. Better off buying a built 4l60e and putting that in.
Interesting. Is that what you did in the red truck you had?
Those are typically setup for non computer controlled cars. Usually the engine control expects some inputs from the transmission and those stand alone transmission controllers don't have the correct output.
Well damn. That sucks.

They're all "E" models. It just means electronically controlled. People drop the E because it's shorter to say and type.

If you want to do a swap you're going to need a new transfer case to match the different output shaft. That may cause compatibility issues with your front and rear driveshafts, and the mount. There will be all the little misc brackets and shit that drive people nuts. Then you're going to figure out the electronics. You've spent two+ years agonizing over a dual battery setup. A transmission controller, even a mostly standalone one, is going to be a lot more complicated than that.

You want bigger brakes and a six speed and lockers and different axle gear ratios. Just buy a truck that has all of that already.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

And dual batteries….so what you are saying is I want a diesel. Lol.

I think gears have the win!

Coop
I have never owned a red truck.

I did a transgo kit in the last silverado I had. When the g80 grenaded I had them install the following while the rear end was being rebuilt:

Transgo 4L60E-HD2 shift kit
Transgo hardened separator plate
Sonnax pinless 1-2 accumulator piston
Sonnax pinless forward accumulator piston
Corvette 2nd gear servo

Didn’t it give you shifting issues towards the end?

I also had a tune that tightened up the shifts. Once I had them scale back the tune it wasn't so bad. Just the 1-2 shift was too hard. After the tune fix it was better.

Did you know the vet actually cleans the horse penis a couple of times per year?

There! I contributed!

The closest I could ever get to anything medical would be a radiology tech or something similar. I do not do well with squishy bits.

I did. Grandpa owned the horse farm. I could get worse about why you all needed a horse, but I will stop.

I am not. I have no problem with anyone who is, so long as they use what they kill. I'm just too squeamish to do it myself. I don't even like handling uncooked chicken.

So my old job of dissecting road kill deer and elk heads to remove glands for chronic wasting disease would probably not be in your wheelhouse.

He knows what I need to hear. I still think it’s no big deal if I wanted to take it to a local trans place and tell them what I want. But he is right.

It’s obvious I don’t know which trans or variant I would pick. If I decide to go that route not only would a lot of reading would be had but talking to them as well. It’s not like I think I can pick and choose any trans to bolt up. I mean, why wouldn’t someone want a fwd avalanche?!
