Yup. Even my vr4 that sits, if I want to get it running again, there is cost, more the longer it sits. Also the longer it sits the less it’s worth. While, no it isn’t taking any money out of my pocket sitting there, everything cost something at some point.

You'd be looking at one with a CVT and the mileage it has you'd probably be looking at needing to replace it. Subaru doesn't recommend rebuilding the CVT and they are only available as a sealed unit.

Good car but may need head gaskets. I do em for 1650 with timing parts and plugs/wires.

It depends on what parts they used for the work. OEM basically last 100-130k

Yep.

They generally start leaking around 80k and are done by 120. Just because they got done doesn't mean they were done right with the right parts. I've redone a bunch that had already been done.

I really think the wife might be giving up the Kia in May. Doesn't have a connection with it and has a "gut feeling" that she shouldn't keep it.

Biggest concern I have is the size of the element and price tag. They hold their value out here.

Kind of want her to see about getting an older Forester for a few grand. Then spend a couple getting it into good shape.

Get her out there and test driving now or you will be in a bad spot quickly when you have to make a choice.

I know it's probably not a popular choice, and I don't think it would fall into the "boxy" category, but small and AWD can be had in the AWD Lancer SE. You could easily get one for under 10k. My FWD Lancer does well enough in the snow. My cousin's wife has an AWD one and has never had an issue with her winter treads mounted.
