I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.
Aluminum body? Your build just hit 6 figures. Lol.
You think it’s that much more?

I floated the idea. But I think we are looking after taxes next year. So this will be a long time.

Okay, dad thinks all cobras are Shelby’s. All he really meant was he wanted a cobra.

He said factory five has a weekend...training? Where they go over everything and what it takes and engine packages and everything. So we are gonna do that. He wants blue with white stripes. He talked about independent rear suspension...thoughts? And he wants huge brakes.

Get a factory five then. Blue and white is the classic go to as it’s beautiful. Independent rear will make it ride real nice. Is it a jaguar rear?

I don’t know what rear end they use but I’m good with all of that.

Factory five for sure. They have it set up so you can use a sbf, bbf, or my personal favorite..... Coyote 5.0

The IRS is based on the s550 mustang. It's nice. You can also use a standard mustang 8.8

Just got order the kit based on what you want.

So sbf is small block ford and other is big block ford?

What’s the huge deal with coyote 5.0’s?

You wouldn’t go with a supercharger 5.0?

Yes all Ford engines.

Coyote makes great power, is fairly reliable, and has a great following.

Supercharged 5.0 (pushrod)? No. By the time you make it reliable with a blower you could have gone coyote and be more reliable with more power. Stock 5.0 ohv block is known to crack down the middle around 500rwhp.

I have a Terminator engine, 5.0 ohv, and I've driven a bunch of coyotes. The Terminator is fucking brutal but a bolt on s550 would have given me a run for sure while being comfortable and getting better mpgs.

In that car a mild cam 5.0 would be fun. A bolt on coyote would be insane.

I am not the one funding this venture, I’m just the one encouraging it. I think he wants pretty stock mustang supercharged so surely it will be reliable enough?

Lots can happen, we are looking into when we can do these dates to the factory five stuff. Wonder if they let you drive one? I’ve driven one and it had an old mustang carb 5.0, it was fast, and fun, but it wasn’t what I would call too much power.

Keep the ideas coming, I’m gonna find a forum and start looking at builds and getting more ideas.

My dad found a class in MI that is 3 days long and they take like 20 people and they build a kit cobra. We are looking for a class in August.

That would be a cool experience. Can you videotape it all?

No idea, need to get this website and look it up. Also need to join a forum about this and start reading about it to get some ideas.

This is getting interesting.

So my dad got their book and dvd and the last thing in it is the 818. https://www.factoryfive.com/818/818s/

It’s built of a WRX. He thinks we could use the vr4 I have as a donor car and do that instead.

So first, if your ever curious where I get my ideas....here is why. I love the outside the box thinking, love the actually thought of a 3/s powered one. But it would have to be so much custom. I suggested a 4g build if we went that route.

I told him I already have an awd turbo car, and really wanted a rwd legend. He said yeah but this one does 0-60 in around 3 seconds. I thought about letting him drive my car as I’m sure it’s around there but then we would never build the cobra.

It’s cheaper, we will in east TN, and it’s all doable.

Not really what I want though. Lol.

We will see where this goes.

The biggest thing I'd caution you is you about is trying to get the body work over a taller engine. The flat 4 is really low in the car. It's really crazy how much shorter it is than an inline engine.

I’m sure everything is less. Trans, weight, turbos, it’s just not a smart idea. I don’t want to do that. I want the cobra.

As much as I like he 6G, in-line 4 and 6 turbocharged engines have a whole lot more going for them.
