Interesting.

Gives me some ideas to play around with. Super tired of having payments. If I don't get one of the internships I might end up either selling the Volt and buying a truck for around $10k or pay off the Volt and just keep dailying that. Really prefer a newer truck but just don't see the point in having car payments anymore. Tired of it.

We still have several 7.3’s in the family. Now that is a well built motor and easily serviceable.

I have a couple friends at the fire hall who have them. Until the oil leaks out of the turbo housing and multiple other issues like one of the two gas tanks start leaking. Or CAS goes bad. But the 7.3 is a great motor and will give you a ton of miles, unless it’s already got a ton. Find one in decent miles and your gonna pay!!!!

Ps. Two out of the 3 people who have them, one is a duely and one is a short wheel base but both 2 wheel drive. Say they are the worst vehicle they have ever driven in the snow/mud/rain.

Hmm haven't had those problems yet. My only gripe is they used some rubber lines for the Injection setup. That and those garbage glow plugs. Thankfully they are easy enough to reach in this model. That motor will run a long time though.

Heavy 2wd pickup in any bad weather will suck.

Yes. Turbos tend to fail after a quarter million miles.

CAS is a $17 part and takes 5 minutes to swap on the side of the road.

Some oil thing to his turbo went bad. It wasn’t the turbo. It was something to do with the housing. Every place wanted 2k to fix a fairly cheap part. And yes the cas is easy and cheap but apparently a common thing?

Probably the pedestal. 2k is outrageous. Parts cost is roughly 160 bucks. On a 7.3 takes about 3 hours.

CAS used to be common. I'm not sure anymore since I've been out of the dealer. They were recalled in my last year. Part price dropped from roughly 150 to under 20. When the parts guy saw that he said it's gonna be recalled soon. 2 weeks later... Recall.

Yes it was the pedestal but that’s the quotes he got from local places.

Good to know about the cas. I bet he will be happy to hear that.

Good luck knocking the International 7.3L. That motor has a solid reputation. Pun intended.

Took a break from school work and did a little digging. Seems like Fords are holding their value higher out here. Found 5 trucks in what looks like decent shape and 4 of them are GM. Just trying to get a feel for what is out here.

Oh I can’t. I looked into buying one for a long time. The only thing I really hate is they are a diesel. That’s a life style change. You gotta get different curtains and rugs. You gotta wear cowboy boots and have stupid exhausts. Basically, you gotta be ready to live that diesel life.

Unless I was towing more than I wasn’t....yes. If it’s main miles are towing then I understand. But it’s diesels are different to diagnose, harder to work on, and overall more expensive. But they tow more and run a million miles. But change the injectors in one. Diagnose some misfire in one. Since it’s only fuel and compression it sounds easy but it’s not.
