I guess that would explain why my truck seats didnt do as great of a job as I was hoping absorbing the leather conditioner I applied. I was getting all pumped to apply it again this spring to see my results, but the above makes sense. Had a similar experience with the Acura as well. My couch on the other hand just soaked it up and got super pliable.

Okay. This is interesting. I want to believe him and he makes good points but don’t any of these products protect the seat from sun or restore the color and mobility?

Its like someone put a coat of plastic over your leather. Like a condom. Nothing is getting through unless you have a crack. You can get UV protectors, but they are only good for so long. Good cab humidity and sunblock via tint would be best spent.

Never did use leather conditioner is any of my leather cars/trucks and never had any issues. Then again I have tinted everything other than the Jeep and typically don't have something long enough to develop issues.

Vira's car has these aftermarket seats. There were in it when she bought it, and I don't think she knows who made them.



They look nice, but they're hard as rocks. The worn out stock seats in my Stealth were a lot softer. The Spyder seats were somewhere in between. I don't know if it's due to being parked outside most of its life, or just because of how they're made, or what.

I tried a spash of water on the passenger seat. It sat right on top of the leather. It didn't even seep into the perforations.

If anyone has any suggestions how to soften these things up, I'd love to hear it. Maybe we just need to stick a humidifier in the car for a few hours

And if anyone has a fix for those limp ass seatbelts, I'd love to hear that too. Cleaning them helps, but it's not a fix for the worn out 25+ year old springs.

One of the "locals" here bought a one owner 3000GT years back. I met him right after he bought it and this was probably 04 or 05. The leather in that car was so ridiculously supple and apparently the original owner used only baby oil on the seats.

Nice article. Wish they would have given more products to use but then it also could have been viewed as an ad intead of good info.
