Hahaha yeah. I used the 2 step in the Legacy a couple of different times overall fairly violent, but mostly I disabled it.

[quote=""aaronatstate""]Tried launch control tonight. All you do is activate via the screen in the dash, mash the gas, revs build to 5000rpm, let the clutch out and go.

It did an AWD spin with the pilot sport as 3+s, hooked and pulled hard. I’m sure the 28* temps didn’t help either. With the summer tires and warmer temps I’m guessing it would launch even harder. Overall it’s pretty violent

I know all the awd unit share the same transfer unit. I think ford calls them a ptu. But is yours the same? I would think something like that would need to be a little stronger.

Has a PTU on the transmission, that just connects the rear drive unit to the transmission through the driveshaft. The PTU is basically the same type of setup as the 3/S. All the center diff, and torque bias front rear is handled by the rear drive unit in the rear end.

Launch control does not void the warranty so...I am assuming with all the design and engineering work that went into the RS, they upgraded the drivetrain components to handle the power an torque.

But did they give that unit it’s own special ptu? Or is it the same as I read all awd ford vehicles use the same way back when I first started reading.

Since it has a specific transmission for the RS made by Getreg, I would say it's parts are only for the RS. It definitely does not have the same stuff as an Escape. Come on man.

The rear diff is made by GKN and it's similar to the system used in the Range Rover Evoque.

Well when they use the same one in everything else then it wouldn’t surprise me. I was just curious the abuse mine can handle.

It's your daily driver. You shouldn't be using the word 'abuse' to begin with.

The ST and RS use manual Getreg transmissions, that have zero in common with the 6F transmissions that are in most of Ford's other transverse mounted engine vehicles (for now anyway).

Heck even the standard Focus doesn't share a transmission with the Escape, since the standard Focus uses the PowerShift DCT.

And just because it has a 6 speed AWD automatic, doesn't mean everything else is the same either. Our Explorer Sport also has a 6F AWD transmission, but it has 365hp and 350ft-lbs of tq, way more than your Escape does, and it is engineered to hold that power and tq.

Lol calm down man, I’m still learning all this Ford shit. Your acting like I’m trying to compare my escape to anything you have, I was more trying to figure out the transfer unit abuse. Not like I told you a VW was better.

No I know you're not trying to compare your Escape to the RS. What is annoying is all of this stuff is online, and took me 5 minutes of googling to figure out.

It's also fairly common knowledge that transmissions are engineered for their application, even if they are the same basic setup. Look at the 3/S, there were specific transmissions for the AWD Turbo models, even though there were AWD NA models available.

Yea but asking you to distill it for us takes 2-3 minutes.

Aaron, if answering questions upsets you maybe you don’t understand how a forum works. It’s not just, look at my cool shit and all all fan boys jump on you. It’s questions and answers and discussions. Also if something so simple pisses you off maybe you need to take a chill pill.

Oh snap, sassy coop is back in this thread.

And for what it's worth, maybe he just wants to make the thread about 'look at my cool new toy,' and not let's discuss the transmission.

It’s a very cool vehicle. I’m looking forward to seeing how they hold up to some abuse.

I know how a forum works, but it gets old answering questions that can be answered with just a few minutes of googling, and doing a bit of investigation yourself.

I'm perfectly fine discussing the transmission, and other mechanics of the car  It's got a lot of awesome stuff in it to make it handle and drive awesome.

Just gets old answering basic questions, like the RS drivetrain being stronger and better than a Escape Turbo AWD.

At least we can all agree that the Golf is the best car out there, when you compare it to the RS.
