Nothing they still have ring land issues on the EJ255. Don't buy it without a compression and leak down test.

The gd ej255 is much more reliable than the 08+ after they redesigned the pistons. Not as reliable as the bugeyes though lol.

This is true but not near as reliable as the various 6 cylinder Subarus.

Also not as fun.

Get a damn Saturn sc2 if you want something reliable. If you want fun you will make compromises somewhere

My Saturn SL2 was reliable, still had an oil leak though, and used a quart of oil every ~1500 miles. My dad owned 2 Saturns, and they did the same thing too

Yeah they would burn oil but you couldn't kill the damn things if you tried.

Sounds like the 4.0 in the Jeeps. Hard to kill that motor. Rest of the vehicle is hit/miss in reliability, but the engine is reliable because it is so damn simple. Just burns and leaks oil a lot.

Hard to kill yes. Im at 180k miles and no oil burn issues. Oil leaks, yes. Motor surprisingly still have a lot of pep.

Definitely burning oil in mine. Or something at least. Exhaust is smokey and smells bad. Another reason to pull the engine, take it apart, and take a good look at thing.

I wouldn't pull it unless you have a noticeable power drop. Could easily just be a leaky valve cover gasket.

It overheated a while back and I never took a good look at it when the radiator failed. Then had an oil filter fail and spray oil everywhere. Leaks/burns about 1-2 qts a month. Need to clean everything really well and see if I can see where the oil is leaking from. Looks to me to be the rear main, but very well could me the valve cover gasket. Mine was leaking there in the LJ when I had it. Problem is with oil/grease/engine grime everywhere it is hard to see.

Also debating on swapping in a v8 for the hell of it, or maybe doing a stroker kit. Either way, it has about 150k miles on it and I would like to take it apart and get a good cleaning done. Easier to do it out of the jeep than in.
