I know it's a depreciating asset, but don't overlook the utility value of it.

On a sidenote, the not so great state of NC has a 3% Highway Use Tax [read sales tax] on vehicle purchases. They then hit you with an annual property tax, however they waive the property tax for people like myself who were sent here by their job. The funny part of that is they require you to physically take a copy of the property tax bill and your LES to their DMV office. Of course you stand in line for 20 - 30 minutes there since that office took an entire week off for Christmas and is about to take another week for New Years.

Once you make it through the line they literally take your papers, turn around, and stick them in a fax machine. They then wait about 10 minutes and hand you an official looking receipt. I'm unsure why they don't take the documents via mail, e-mail, fax, or any number of other technologies that have existed for decades and simply mail the receipt out. Physical office space in a strip mall isn't free

It costs less than paying a software developer to design, implement, secure and maintain an online system.

You would think fax would be reasonable though. I'm still amazed at how many fax lines we implement for our customers.

That's just it, clearly all the front office is doing is faxing the stuff to someone at the county clerks building who is then processing it. Why not use the front office staff to help with the processing on the back end and let people fax, mail, e-mail, carrier pigeon, etc their stuff themselves?

I don't have an answer to that. Maybe they have a contract with a 3rd party and this work just gets lumped in with something else?

Oh I don't expect a logical answer

I'm sure it has something to do with bureaucracy and/or contracting.

After all those commercials, some of them still running during New Years Day bowl games, I had told the wife that the Mazda was her Christmas present.

It really is, I always see those and think if they put an envelope on the tree that has the monthly payment.
