Also Mike, everywhere I'm looking says the complete LS1 with clutch and manifolds is 458lbs. The LFX complete is 345. So 113lbs more....
It has more to do with the Miatas are tuned and the other cars are baselining their cars with a factory tune. Picking up 30whp from a tune is standard on a domestic.
I didn't gain much from my longtubes and catless X.. I picked up 40whp from my tune tho.
I guess. I'd think that balance would be a bigger concern on the race car than the street car. You're not going to notice 60lbs on the nose on the street when you're already down on weight vs. stock because of the swap. If you ran them back to back...sure. Running one over the other..doubt it.
I posted in my Exocet thread recently that I came to realize the turbo setup wasn't the best solution for my goals. Especially since the cost isn't much different.
Unfortunately the LFX swap was only in the discussion phase around the time I was planning the Exocet build. I mainly didn't go LS because too much power.
I could pull the 4 cyl out of the Exocet and use it in the Catfish but I don't see the value in dissembling the Exocet after finally getting it finished. Plus the motor doesn't fit under the hood...

Makes sense. So a good bit of weight is saved in the LFX from the integrated exhaust manifolds.

Mike it's a Miata you can't fit long tube headers.

The down pipe bolts directly to the head with the LFX. The manifolds are integrated into the heads. This HUGE amount of freed up space is another reason for this motor vs the LS.
Actually I suppose you can cut the piping right behind the forward o2 sensor and ditch the first set of cats.... Hmmmm...
I see this changing the definition of "port and polish" when it comes to head work.
The exhaust for the Catfish is completely custom from the head to the muffler. Only 3 bends in the whole system. Note the side exhaust.
It'll be a "true dual" setup like a viper.
Flyin' Miata sells them no?
They just redistribute them from V8 Roadsters (where you get the subframes and everything to bolt the motor in). They don't fit in an Exocet without modding (because of the differences in the firewall). No clue if they will fit in a Catfish.

I really love the LFX in my ATS. Sounds really cool at 7000 rpms lol.

That's fucking odd...
No chance of weight savings or added performance there. :/
And no, the diameter is the same as stock LS headers. Example, corvette headers are so narrow that you can use them on 240 swaps because the corvette engine bay is also quite tight.
Honda has been doing this for years. It's for emissions.

Looks like I am being forced to hold this project for a while. Changing jobs and losing my garage soon. Meaning I can't afford to spent $$ recreationally for a bit.
It's not the end of the world. Sounds like Cordy can't even get a kit together for me for another 6-8 months anyway so either way the waiting game is on for now.
Sorry Greggors. :/ I'd love one of these with a V8 in it. I just wish they were Mike Friendly in terms of size. I'd hoon the shit out of one on the road course.
You're such a redneck.
Oh speaking of, Exomotive just put down 465whp in their cammed LS3 car tuned by the MS3. Stock motor/heads. Just intake/exhaust.

I don't know how anyone could keep a beefed up roller skate like that pointed in any direction for longer than 2 seconds.
