Yea after a few thousand you get stuff like lockout and pro pedal. Bike tightens up like a solid frame.

My Gary Fisher has all that stuff and I still find myself thinking it's pretty sloppy. If I had to do it all over again I'd buy the nicest non carbon hardtail 26" or 27.5" wheels I could find.

I prefer a hardtail myself but can definitely see the benefit of rear suspension for certain trails etc. Depends on what and how you ride imo.

Exactly. I only got mine because I love downhill. For anything else you would want to look closer at a hard tail.

Based on my very limited experience with rear suspension and trail types i would agree that makes a lot of sense.

Ive been looking for a different bike (mine is a little small for me) and to avoid the sloppy feeling i think im going to go with a $500ish hardtail. Theres not a whole lot of places near me that you can fly down a hill without first climbing it

On trails I am more of a technical trail rider rather than a speed rider.. so hardtail works for me. I will probably pick one up either this fall or next spring.. have to spread the purchases out a big so the wife doesn't kill me ;)

Hoping to pick up the Slice this weekend. Running a tough race on Sunday so probably wont get to ride it though.. boo..

Better pictures from picking it up last weekend. Only had one ride on it so far (easy 40 minutes shakedown really) and it takes a bit to get used to. The aero bars make it handle SO differently, and the frame is pretty stiff and a bit jittery. Brakes are also poor compared to the road bike (typical for tri bikes). Definitely notice a difference in putting power to the ground though.

Thats a clean looking bike. Like the black too. I bet you can pick it up with your pinky. ;)

It is pretty light.. will probably get race wheels on it next year if I decide to go for a full. Will ride it un-modified this year except for bottle cages behind the seat and a bar mounted aero bottle. I do LOVE the matte black though. I call it my Vader bike :p

Love Mt biking, have a 2010 Trek Top Fuel 8. Lucky to live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan because we have IMBA (International Mt Bike Assoc) Silver ride center in Copper Harbor, MI and a Bronze ride center in Marquette. Both have incredible trails! Check out the interactive link below on Copper Harbor trails. Check out the trail videos of "The Edge" and "Stairway to Heaven". At the 1:15 mark on The Edge you will see the elevated, banked wooden bridges. Sweet!!

Looks like a fun course. The man made wooden switchbacks would be a kick. Makes me want to go out and ride this weekend.

Took a ride on the streets this weekend. Took the Kona mountain bike because my road bike has a bent rim.

It was a hot day, but with low humidity the cool breeze from riding was perfect. Anyways decided to take a new road that was constructed with a nice bike path. Did 20 miles and wasn't too beat. This can get addicting.

Yep we just picked up mountain bikes.. had to drive 90 miles each way for Beth's. I was first told that mine was in St Louis or Vermont.. then I found a different one locally (last one available). Finding bikes right now is insane.

Love my Santa Cruz though ;)

I bet it is. I see used ones online pretty readily thought.

Good to see the Viking on the seat of a mountain bike. They are the most fun.
