It's broken because you have a major leak, im guessing at the pump cover since you appear to be missing studs and spewing fuel. Fix it!!!

Filler neck, overflow, line to cannister, supply and return line.

I'm assuming it is the one on top, I've not had to fool with the fuel pump/tank/system on my car yet, so I don't have first hand knowledge of our cars exact setup. I've pulled a few tanks on old beaters we used to scrap...

Yes, you can remove the hard line. I don't know for sure which one it is on the tank, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out working from the front (where the cannister used to be) towards the fuel tank.

Most overflow lines just dump...they don't go anywhere.

The supply line comes from the top of the tank, as does the line to the vac. cannister. I'm not 100% sure where the return line enters the tank but it would more than likely be full of fuel.

Yes, sometimes you'll get gas fumes in the engine bay with the line still in place. That is one reason to remove the line, or reroute it. I added a soft line and ran it out the front on the car near the underbody splash guards.

You are correct about the return line. It also keeps the fuel circulating so it doesn't get hot and cause a vapor lock.

You can't see where the leak is coming from? It shouldn't be too hard to see fuel shooting out at 40psi?
