Just like electronics, it's always the "wrong" time to buy a car.

I ended up with a 3LT package on mine, but had ordered a 2LT originally. The PDR is nice to have, but certainly not essential. I only use it at the track, or sometimes on car club cruises. 3LT as far as "real" useful stuff is just +Nav and +PDR. The rest is fluff that you won't miss if you don't have it.

I don't think the ZR1 is going to be as big of a deal. The price will probably be pretty far up there ($130k?), and it is really just a Z06 with some aero bits changed and possibly a slight supercharger upgrade. If there isn't something special about the motor, it isn't that compelling vs. a Z06 with some minor upgrades. I doubt it will bring the prices down much from where they are now.

Serious Vette people are probably going to wait for the C8/Zora over the ZR1.

Yeah, it amazes me how often I see someone with a Z06 with the Z07 package and the carbon brakes. Those fuckers are expensive as hell to replace ($6000+), and they never see the track. Not to mention the bone-jarring ride of the Z07 suspension.

I guess we'll see how it plays out, but for now I'm hanging onto my Stingray and maybe watch to see what the C8 ends up being.

Best comment on the ZR1 article:

Dodge Demon people: “But can it pull the front wheels off the ground?!”
Chevy Corvette people: “Can the demon turn?!”
Ford Mustang people: “LOOK OUT!!!!”

For the price, not as long as you would hope. Supposedly they work awesome as far as braking performance goes (road course type braking), but if you crack a rotor you get to open up the checkbook.

Depends on how you use the brakes, but it isn't something that I'd personally want to find out. No carbon-ceramic brakes for me. I don't need them.

Some people have said about every 5 pad changes, which for track use is a set of pads about every 3-4 track days. Lowest I've seen the carbon-ceramic rotors for is $1100 each from third-parties.

Thats crazy, I really didn't know all that. I have some new found respect for them when I see them! Also makes me never want them. haha.

What's even crazier is they're still about 1/3 the cost of carbon brakes for other cars. Either GM got an insane price point on them, or other manufacturers are marking them WAAAAY up.

I've never driven a car with ceramics, but everything I've read says they're mediocre when they're cold. Which is most of the time in street driving.

It seems like a lot of people just buy the "top model" to brag about. I expect the same thing with the ZR1. The thing is built to be a hard core time attack weapon, and you'll eventually see them for sale with "adult owned, never raced, low miles". IE: I bought it to show off but I drive it like a pussy.

That's about 90% of all Vette owners, from what I've seen.

My favorite one is "never seen rain".

I guess it's ok if you want to have a carefully preserved museum piece, but I don't think these people have ever seen just how brutally these cars are tested during development. Being driven in the rain is far from the worst thing you can do to it.

If I'm worried about weather damaging a car, I'd rather see "always parked in the shade".

I am sorry, but if I had a high performance car, depreciation be damned, I am driving the fucking hell out of it.

I'm on a C7 facebook group and people post photos all the time bitching about people parking next to them in a public parking lot and bullshit like that. I think I have to un-join all those sorts of groups. If there was a C7 Performance group, that'd be cool maybe. The general groups are full of a bunch of pussies that just wax them in the garage and throw a cover on it.

I drive mine to karate class all the time, park right in front of the door where all the kids go by, etc. Drive it in the rain, if it happens to rain without a care. Cold weather? Not a problem... I did put it in the back garage last weekend figuring the weather is turning to crap now to the point where the tires don't like it, but I drive it anywhere and everywhere if it isn't winter. If it gets a little dirty, not a big deal - it washes off.

This last post is exactly why you shouldn't buy a Ferrari

People had the same kind of attitude towards my Audi when I got it. Why'd I buy such a 'nice car' to drive daily. Half of them thought I bought it new. It cost less than a couple of the SUVs and now Jeeps here, and if I'm paying that much for a car, I'm going to drive the hell out of it.
