You buy 2 of the ones that say "3S Carbon Synchro 6 Speed 5-6 / 5 Speed 3-4" for 3-4, and 2 of the ones that say "V160 Supra / Skyline / 3S Carbon Synchro Friction."

Since all I know is these are suppose to be "better" can someone school me on why? How carbon fiber makes them better?

I'd guess it has to do with heat resistance, but that doesn't make sense. The inside of the trans is bathed in oil, and it doesn't get nearly as hot as a brake rotor does. So...I don't know?
I'm just glad there's an alternative to those crappy serrated metal ones that come in the really cheap kits.

Read all about it:
http://www.hoerbiger.com/upload/file/po ... ers_en.pdf
Basically more consistent friction characteristics, higher wear resistance, more consistent shifting feel. Will synchronize the gear speeds quicker at the same pressure, etc.
Edit: Oops, that link is actually more for their optimized sintered rings, though it does cover some aspects of the carbon lined rings. Here's some more info on the carbon ones:

In case anyone happens to have an X-Series AEM wideband and EMS Series 2:
Tools -> Configure Telemetry -> CAN Receive
Set CAN Rx ID 01 to Extended format and: 0x00000180
Log channel CAN1 RX1 W1-4
The first two bytes are lambda with .0001 lambda/bit or .001465 scaling for gasoline AFR.
I'm not sure if the channel parameter will log 2 bytes or 4 bytes, but there are math functions in AEMData to slice it up and get the right bits to convert to lambda or AFR. Can't test until the AEM arrives and I actually put my car back together.
At least I'm putting some time in on it again!

I got a little more done today, but is was like 95 degrees and humid today so I gave up after a while... Oil returns are done. The took a little while to get right, but I'm satisfied with them now. Turbo heat blankets are now properly mounted and safety-wired up. Starting to figure out what I'm going to do for intercooler piping and routing. I'm thinking about mounting the intercooler upside-down with the inlet and outlet at the top so the pipes aren't exposed and won't get in the way of the '99 bumper fins and fogs. I think I've figured out a way to make it work, and still keep a crash bar in there. We'll see though...

That does look good. Man I remember moving those lines like 5 times before I got them exactly how I wanted. Then I even had a feed line (that was too long) rest in a hot exhaust in the back, and was fine while running, but after the first time I really got on it and parked it....burnt right through that ss line. Oh fun times.

I finally got the feed lines set up like I want them, so that's done. Rear wastegate is also done and rigged up in the proper position so it shouldn't hit anything and has a full throw on the gate lever. 1-bar Kinugawa adjustable actuators.
I think I also figured out how to use the stock oil pressure sensor and log it on the AEM (and set up warnings/failsafes/whatever to go with it). If you change the jumper for one of the "EGT" inputs from 0-5V to EGT in the AEM Series 2, it adds a pull-up resistor so that you can measure resultant voltage to the pin to infer resistance on the sensor (as it sinks current to ground, based on its own resistance). I just have to rig up a pressure tester on the sensor and map it out. Well, and figure out where in the harness I can find the wire to the sensor.
Got my two AEM X-Series inline widebands for the AEM. Anyone need a gauge-type X-Series wideband? I have one new-in-box.
Just about ready to drop the motor back in now. Getting close...
Gauges are going bye-bye. Moliva climate control display for Boost and WBO2. LCDBC AEM version for whatever else I want to display in the center vent slot.

That climate control replacement is really cool.

So how are those digital climat controls different than my stealth logger that does boost control and wide and and what not?

Uh, they display it on the climate control screen instead of a display you need to mount somewhere?

That's about the only difference. Oh, and you can get some little graphs to display as well. All in all, it will be hard to see while driving. But it's neat to show people.

Yup. I'll have failsafes and such set up in my AEM, so if things get out of hand it'll shut it down so hopefully I don't have to be watching gauges like a hawk. But good to be able to glance over and spot check parameters if I need to (ie: is boost hitting where I want it to, wideband in range?). Tired of gauges all over the place - I want a clean look now.

Man, this build is taking forever. Maybe that's because I haven't done any of the actual building in quite a while. The new job is taking up a lot of time, and frankly I'm just not super motivated to tackle the Spyder right now.
However, I did get a few more parts in:
A set of Bob's huge sidemount intercoolers
April made me a polished intake plenum and throttle body
I'm currently contemplating whether I should do the 3SX fuel bulkhead and a big Fuelab pump instead of trying to cram a couple Walbro 450s in the tank. Leaning strongly towards the Fuelab setup to simplify all that, and control the pump speed from the AEM.
Might have a chance to do some work on it over the next few weeks, we'll see... Still need to fabricate a wastegate relocator plate for the rear turbo. Using a J-pipe on the front turbo to connect down to the passenger side SMIC so I don't have to make 2 relocators.

I can put up some pictures of my TD05 wastegate bracket if you want some ideas. It's just basic sheet metal.
I need to get my old set up photographed and sold.

Yeah, I'd like to see your bracket if you don't mind. I have an idea what I want to do, but if there's a better way then I'm all for it!

I think mine was the same as Jeffs and I never could get my wastegates to seal.
