Not sure i would have drilled a hole in a structural part of the tube frame like that. Doesn't that part see impact pressure?

It’s not part of the frame, it’s on there to hold a plastic rear bumper that I don’t have. The only way it sees impact pressure is if someone rear ends her. With one kart at a time I don’t know how that would happen.

Today we do shims.
So these kart brakes are not like brakes on a car. On a car the piston keeps coming out to make it super close to the rotor. Well these kart brakes use shims.

There were two shims already installed
I made a third
I stood at the store for a while debating which size to get. Got the smaller and told myself I can make a couple if I need to. Well, even the smaller was a little too big and I had to take out the smaller of the shims that were in there. But holy poop I love the distance from caliper to brake pad. I couldn’t have done any better in my mind. I keep looking at it and am happy. Now what does this equal in pedal throw? Very little honestly. But they do engage much quicker which is more what I was after. There was just some dead space in the pushing of the pedal and engagement of the pads.

Saturday is our first day. He gives me a sneak peak just because she’s new. This will not always be the case. He doesn’t even wanna do Sunday so this might be our only go.
I think this is the perfect starter. The slalom is for cars so a kart can just drive strait. So as long as she gets some speed off for the turns she should do great.

You can see she started out really slow. Like really slow. Got faster and faster.

Started out faster than the other group, got slower, then ended strong.
Here is the link to her fastest run on the first round. The extension wasn’t holding so the fastest wasn’t high enough.

Over all. Super proud. But freak she wouldn’t hold the gas down and go!!! But she was out there and did it. And worked jobs at the event. Really good overall.

Okay. Day two. Yes day two!!! First one was a charity. This was the real deal. No looking at the lat out. I hated how slow and cautious she was. So I took off the throttle restrictions. Let her eat.

They went off the white. It wasn’t a super hard course but it was f easy. Again, no preview, get there, walk it, drive it.

So so so much better. I know the time doesn’t show it but she was out there actually holding the gas down and going!!!

Her job this time was to work in the timing trailer. She did great.
Here is her fastest run.

Man, after the first day I was really ready to be like…well, she likes driving but not fast. And just wait till the younger one wanted to drive. But she actually went out there and gave me things the kart needs to help her drive faster. The gearing on it doesn’t let her take off. It was given to me so and I had no idea what to get. Still don’t. But the gearing needs to be addressed. I do think I will do a small build on the engine. Billet flywheel, governor taken off, and some sort of electronic governor put on. She needs real and new tires, plus those bearings are shot. I also think the rear brake caliper is leaking a little. No puddle or anything but it seems like the distance for pads and caliper are always changing. It’s really odd.
But that’s all stuff I can do in this off season as the last race we will be gone on vacation.

Oh. And a billet flywheel. I think I figured out how to control rpm as well.

I was thinking about getting a clutch that will have about 1,000-1,500 stall as well. Just so it can take off a little better.

Small kart update. First she chanced the sprocket on the back from a 57 to 67. Yes, she did. I sometimes had to break them loose and I did check them all for tightness but she did it. She also took off and put on the wheel.
I chanced the clutch from a 13 to an 11 sprocket. I say me as the engine had to come off to do this part.
Now, since I want to run more rpm’s I needed something that showed me peak rpm’s so I know to go up or down gearing’s. I got an rpm gauge that did that. Only to realize that we were NOT getting the rpm we wanted.
From the pedal to the carb, no slack 2000rpm
If I push the rpm lever full open, 2000rpm
Engine is rated to go 3600 per its manual.
If I push the gas after the rpm lever I get the 3600. But I can’t do that in a race. I need 3,600 to the pedal.
Here is a video of that helps you better.
https://youtube.com/shorts/kua2mojxRkQ? ... vrCSOv6iW7
Well, this is easy if I want to get rid of the governor, and I will eventually but not right now. This becomes diff when I want to keep it. After talking online and with jeff. Here is a video he sent me and prob what I will do.
https://youtu.be/47FZu66hcM4
So turns out at the race with the 2,000rpm she could get about 13/14mph. She might have been wide open then!
With the gearing changed and once I get the rpm’s right she will come out of the hole much much faster and will be more around the 17/18mph. Then I will monitor rpm’s and see if she needs a a gear change after her first runs.
Small updates. But updates.

Lol. I did cut my hand and didn’t even realize it. Blood was all over the back of my hand and she was a little worried but I never even felt it.
I get how people get frustrated and drop words. Her just keeping the wrench strait so it wouldn’t wobble off or strip a bolt was very much stressful. Not that those would happen here.

Did what was in the video. The governor stills pulls back at the pedal hard. Well, I am waiting on a part to mount the cable better than me. So we will see but she will get a lot of feedback into her foot. Should be interesting.

Got the part to mount the throttle cable correctly. Thought I was gonna have to make a 90 degree turn so I bought some aluminum 6mm OD 4mm ID tube
Used a die to try and get a 7mm thread on it for a nut.
Yeah, don’t even know if it would have threaded on with that.
So let’s use a die and try 6mm.
That’s better but man was it close on the inside. Should have gone with 7mm OD and 4mm ID and a 7mm nut.
Well I needed to bend it and if anyone has ever bent aluminum knows it will just kink. So I got some rubber caps. Filled it with sand. Heated it up. And made a really nice bend and cut to length.
Well, it just wasn’t what I wanted. It added to much mess, and I saw an easier way that pulled on the same bracket but strait on.
So all that work wasn’t needed. Oh well.
Also added a stronger return spring like mentioned in the video. I didn’t have a good mounting point so I got a washer, drilled a hole in it, and gave myself a spot to hook.
All seems to work great. I will let her sit in it running and see how it feels to her. Lots more pedal feedback. The other way was a super light pedal this way is not to bad but not easy, and when the governor tries override it will push back some.
