AEM Infinity 506 in a 3000GT

Re: AEM Infinity 506 in a 3000GT
My existing latch cable seems to still work. The little plastic ferrule piece on the cable is still busted, but I don't think the other half of it can pop out, and pulling on the lever still actuates the latch just fine. I have a new cable coming, but pulling the fender and everything apart to replace it sounds super un-fun.
Got the hood latch all back on and started driving around. No leaks, everything sounds good. Oil pressure good, etc. First pulls with wastegate pressure are about 8 psi of boost. VE table looks pretty good, my A/F ratio is right around 11.6:1 like I want, timing is from my old AEM Series2 map with a couple degrees taken out because of the switch to the stroker.
I set up the boost control stuff like I normally would, and set the initial duty target to 20% and set a boost protection at about 19 psi just to be safe. Go out and get through 1st and 2nd slowly and then punch it in 3rd. Boost rockets up to 19 psi before I'm even at 4000 rpm and the ECU shuts it down until I let off the throttle. At least the protections work as designed.
I went through all the boost control tables and they were displaying in PSI, but are actually set up to work with KPa. I switch my display prefs to KPa and see that various tables are adding to my boost target. So instead of my boost target being 12 psi, it was 22 psi. Whoops. I got that all fixed and made a few pulls around 12 psi to start getting my boost solenoid pulsewidth table set up, but need to do more tomorrow. It is supposed to rain, but hopefully there are some windows of time where I can play a little bit.
Really liking how easy it was to get a very good initial tune with extremely little work.
Overall I'm very happy with how the car is coming together so far. The front end looks great with all the correct '99 pieces installed, including the driving lights. Power-wise, at 12 psi it feels really quick already, maybe on-par with the Stingray, but it is difficult to tell. The Spyder is making a lot more "racecar" noises. Between the new exhaust, more displacement, cams, mafless intake, and having the top down - it really feels like a wilder ride. Boost response with the 16Gs on the 3.5L motor is very good. Insta-spool anywhere above 4000 rpm, and I got somewhere around 9 psi by 3000 rpm in high gear.
A few more tweaks on the ECU to get some additional features enabled correctly and raise the boost. Then pick up some E85 and make sure my ethanol sensor is working properly and set up the flex-fuel parts (with more boost - of course). Should be fun!

Re: AEM Infinity 506 in a 3000GT
Seemed like the turbos were working harder than they should for the boost, so decided to re-do my boost leak test since I had a few of the pipes off for various fixes. Found a couple spots where the t-bolt clamps weren't tight enough, so should be a lot easier/quicker to make boost now. Have to re-do my duty cycle settings. Oh well, for that - I think I'll put up with it.
Looks like I'm getting a little oil leakage around the turbo oil returns at the pan. I didn't put any sealant on the bolts - maybe I'll try that. Should be able to get at them reasonably well.

It is basically complete. Just tying up a few loose ends, and need some E85 tuning yet.

Wow. Would never know that car is a monster!
Do you get more looks in that or the vette?

I'd say the Spyder gets more attention because people never see them around, and I don't drive mine very often.

I'll be in Sandusky that weekend, but with the family and a rental car. We're hanging out at Cedar Point.

We went about 4 years ago, right after they opened GateKeeper. They've opened another coaster since then even. We thought about going this year, but Austin isn't even 2 yet. Maybe next summer when we go to Michigan, we'll go since he'll be a bit older then.

Good to see the setup is working for you. I'm still up in the air for engine management for my 3.6 with the FP 68HTA turbos. I've heard some good and bad things about the Infinity ecu. What did you do for wiring on it? Boomslang harness or pin it out yourself?

Re: AEM Infinity 506 in a 3000GT
Built my own harness. Details are in the thread a ways back. I got a half-harness from a place, and just linked together AEM's harness and that one. I have an Excel spreadsheet with all the mappings.
I wasn't sure on the Boomslang because there were certain things I wanted done in a specific way, and there was no detail at all on what/how they connected things up.
It is working great so far - I haven't run into anything that I would consider a "bad thing" about Infinity. So far, so good.

Only bad things I heard was something with the response time with certain things that could make the engine go boom instead of vroom. I forget the details, but I just remember hearing it mentioned. I'll have to dig through this thread to see what you did.

Re: AEM Infinity 506 in a 3000GT
I put together a quick little video of a few WOT pulls that I did while tuning today. Car is running good, no leaks, nothing unusual. Still on 91 octane right now, but it is pulling strong. Most of these are quick pulls to redline around 7800-8000 in various gears. I'm not sure I got all the way to redline in 3rd. Just driving around on some local roads.
Mostly to try to see if my phone would make decent car videos or not just on a mount under the rearview mirror. Doesn't really make for any excitement that way, so I guess I'm back to the GoPro between the front seats.

I love how non-descript it looks. Unless you told someone they'd have no idea what was actually lurking under the hood!
Re: AEM Infinity 506 in a 3000GT
So safe to assume your done with the hard stuff. Are you happy with the amount of work and end results?

Re: AEM Infinity 506 in a 3000GT
Yeah, all the big stuff is completed now. I still don't have my flex fuel sensor working, so I need to resolve that. Then tune for E85 with more boost. I also have a Rvenge coil-on-plug setup that I'm planning to put on, but that'll likely end up being over the winter and set it up for sequential ignition instead of waste-spark. I removed my old CoP setup because I didn't like the DIS4-HO box being under the hood.
I'm considering going to Test and Tune on Saturday, but the weather is looking sketchy at this point. It'd be nice to get some solid 3rd gear pulls in for tuning, as well as get a feel for how quick it really is.
I got a Dragy GPS box, so I can do various timings with 10hz GPS positioning, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. It is supposedly very accurate.
