Snow driving

Lockers ain't gonna do shit if you don't have traction. The single most important thing is proper snow tires. Second would be awd.

Those 2 things and anything under 10 inches or so and you'll be fine.

Fwiw back in 09 I had no problems with bfg ATs on my Montero in 18" of snow in significant hills.

To further the point on TIRES.

Tires are the only part of your vehicle that actually touch the road. If you don't have good tires then all the modifications in the world won't do jack shit. You don't need lockers to drive in 6 inches of snow. I don't care one bit about hills. You don't know hills. I used to live on a hill that gained over 250 foot of elevation in less than 1/2 mile. Your driveway... I drove that plus 2500 feet every day.

There was another hill I climbed on a daily basis that climbed 500 feet in around a mile. Snow tires got me every where I needed to go. There is no need to Coopify a truck by overcomplicating something so simple as driving in a little bit of snow.

Now why would anyone want air lockers when you have to have a pump? What’s the advantage over electric? Obviously manual hubs are a no go.

Air lockers are good if you use the air for other things as well. Such as to fill tires and stuff. Other than that it really comes down to preference.

OX makes lockers that would work in the 1500 Avalanche, but not a 2500, but they offer mechanical selectable lockers. Only available for 10 Bolt rears. 2500 Avalanche is 14 bolt. - http://www.ox-usa.com/gm-10-bolt/273-gm10-bolt.html

Honestly unless you NEED the 2500, it will be easier to modify at 1500 to suit your wants for a locker.

I am headed this weekend to look at an 09 Black with 135k on it. It’s pretty much my whole budget so snow tires would have to wait till next year but they would be first. It has the tow package and everything. Damn it’s sexy. Hopefully it works out.
