Tackled the rear mud flaps ive been wanting to put on. While i was at it i also wanted to spray on some High Temp engine paint from the late 1990s onto my rotors. Oddly they were starting to fade a little.

Flappy flaps installed. This took much longer than pictured. Had to drill holes in fender which i HATED.

It was a tough balance getting the right amount of up/down and left/right, but I got what i liked best.

Has anyone ever explained why Chrysler mounted the rear brakes down so low on the LX cars?

It looks like it's to get around suspension parts. Wonder if it has to do with how far inboard they decided to put the rotors, the calipers they decided to use, or if it's a legacy from Mercedes (didn't the LX start off as a Benz platform?)? Or maybe they mounted them low to move the CG down a bit

All the old E-class pics I can find show a normal caliper around the 3:00 position on the back edge of the rotor.

If this was about lower mass or center of gravity, then that's like a morbidly obese person choosing to wear thinner socks...

The non Brembo floating caliper equipped ones have it in the 3:00 position.

My guess is to make the 4 piston Brembo fit with the size rotor they chose, they had to rotate it down to clear the suspension parts. Easier to rotate it down, then move it to the rear of the hub I’d think.
