If you look at my ancestry, a few of my higher percentages are known to be lactose intolerant as adults. But it doesn't bother me. Never was a fan of milk or cheese or most dairy products in general. So my life really hasn't changed since I figured it out. The celiac disease is a different story. Still getting used to the no gluten and low fodmap constraints. I already barely ate a wide variety of food. Now it's even lower. There are only about 8 things I buy every time I go grocery shopping now. Meat, spinach, rice, salt/pepper, eggs, fruit (low fodmap so that is like 3 options, lol), popcorn. If I want to explore I'll try a gluten free snack but even those are hit or miss on my system. I'm the world's most boring eater. Can't eat at any restaurant or anything unless I know the exact ingredients and how it's prepared to avoid cross contamination. But I've gone months now without being sick instead of weekly issues so it's worth it

I didnt know you had Celiacs. My wife has tested positive for one of the genes years ago, so she avoids it. She has been gluten free for 6-7 years now. If you ever need food ideas let me know. Also there are a lot more restaurants being better educated on cross contamination in just the last 2-3 years. Currently my wife likes to eat a lot of BBQ and Currey. Great stuff.

It's more than just celiac. I've got other health and digestive issues too. Can't have anything in the amaryllis family. That's things like onion, garlic, etc. Not even in spices. Pretty much salt and pepper is all I can do. So I can't have 99% of the salad dressings, BBQ, spices, etc. Even tomato and tomato based things are a no go since they tend to be higher fodmap. The only way I can function without a shit ton of meds is extremely low fodmap, lactose free, gluten free, low fat. It sucks but after years of struggling it's nice to be at a place I can not have to worry all the time.

Don't really go into it but I'm very lucky to be alive. Born with fucked up insides. Spent the first few months of my life in an incubator. Was on meds and surgeries well into my early teens. Then was OK for the most part until my late 20s. That's when I started to get sick again. I'm on a butt load of rxs. But less than before now thanks to the current diagnosis. Still monitoring me for potential other things but just dealing with 1 thing at a time. Next is bicep repair then disc surgery again in my back. Then worry about the next things.

What else do you know about the amaryllis thing? I've got a good friend who can barely even be around cooking onions. Definitely can't eat them. Gives her migraine like symptoms. She's never gotten a good answer on what causes it.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Not sure really. Just through process of elimination I realized how much they were fucking me up. Even species with minimal amounts make me sick for a couple of days now

I'm that good friend with the onion issue, it's a pain. I bought lemon pepper seasoning and before I opened it i looked at the back and got pissed, why the hell does lemon pepper need onion or garlic in it. I now read all labels. Check out foodallergypi.com her family had a ton of food allergies and she has recipes without onions, garlic, etc on that website. I hope you feel better, good luck.
