Call me crazy, but on my RS with black wheels, I like the chrome lug nuts better. I did get aftermarket ones because the Ford ones suck, but I stuck with the stock chrome look.
Interesting enough, my Stealth with the aftermarket wheels now has black lug nuts and I think it looks good too
I think I like the contrast more than anything.

I thought about just leaving it alone, it didn't really bother me, but as you said the stock 2 piece chrome capped lug nuts are terrible. The downside of the black ones is impact guns can and will damage the black coating.

I have two open haha. One will be fixed now when I take it in for service and the other is waiting for available recall service.
