Dirty Steve asked for someone to keep an eye out for Cadillac XTS Brembo brake calipers. There's a kit that lets you bolt them up on his Mustang.

It just so happened one hit the yard near me right around the same time. Normally the yards here pull the wheels before the cars go on the yard. I thought it'd be a quick in and out to grab the brakes.

Twas not meant to be. This bastard had locking lug nuts, with no key to be found.

There was much frustration, followed by many expressions of aggression from me and my 3 lb sledge.



I still don't know how this even worked. The lugs on this car were tightened to many multiples of ooga booga. Somehow I got them off. Thus Steve gets some bargain priced brakes.



One of the wheels was smashed and scraped the caliper, but it's cosmetic. Should be a fairly easy fix.

I also got a nice overhead console for Coop's GMC. It was a good weekend.

Pick N Pull is pretty good with their selection. The other 3 yards tend to get older crap I'm no longer interested in.

I made a trip to my local PnP this weekend as well. Well at least the one 45 minutes away. Had this guy show up.



Its only an 89 4 cyl, so no v6, but the sport tach and the bumper were nice.

really blows my mind the condition of some of the cars that show up. from going to a few towing auctions it seems many of them got towed, never recovered, and then bought by PNP. when i was going they would simply bid scrap value for them and often got them. they effectively get the vehicle for free (they could just as easily scrap it outright and break even), cut the cats (instant double their investment), drain fluids, pull battery and sell used, pull wheels and sell used (at this point theyve tripled their money before the car even hits they yard), and then place it. let it get scavenged, and then scrap for damn near their initial layout. or if its a runner theyll sell it as such for 5-8x what they paid.

I don't know. It looked to be decently kept for a 36 year old truck. Maybe because it was still carbureted. It had a little over 200k miles on it. Somehow its common to see nice things in the yard. Even new stuff gets dumped here, like a Scat Pack 396 Charger. Unfortunately the motor was already pulled on that one, or you know i would have grabbed it.

I wonder if the motor was grabbed, or if someone turned in the chassis for scrap. Like that F150 I got the carpet out of. It was a 5.0 RWD. I suspect someone bought it wrecked, pulled the drivetrain, and then dumped the carcass at PnP.

It was still complete. Full drivetrain. I know the carbs can be a pain on those early models, so maybe that, or the engine finally gave out. I didn't really stick around too long to diagnose.

I didn't post it in my other thread, but i grabbed the ignition switch as well. It was only possible because the guy used a grinder cut off wheel in the top of the smooth bolt heads to create a slot head screwdriver point, so you could remove the bolts. They aren't normally serviceable. That and some other things makes me think the owner was pretty good about upkeep on the truck.
