I am not trading this truck in. I do like it. Unloaded wow it’s got power and get up and go. Even loaded, it would drop a gear and do whatever I wanted. It was just losing speed on some of the hills was all.

Yeah I'm not trading in either financially it's not worth it. Also, while a diesel F250 would be great for when we take the trailer out, the rest of my driving would be terrible for the diesel emissions systems.

Benn watchin the Netflix special Gone Girls which has been a crazy rollercoaster. Noticed something interesting to the case.
Guess he and Coop have something in common.

not the same truck. badge is missing on the c-pillar. chrome door pulls on the one being towed. body cladding on rear arches is diffrerent.

Nobody ever trades their vehicle in for the newer version of the same model.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Talked to the guy at work who tows a lot and had basically the same truck. Loves the 8.1. Has a motor home with an 8.1 over a diesel.
He said it was the wind on why it would have problems on some and not others. And he prob is right as I did have to pull over at one rest stop because of a storm advisory and the wind was bad enough to push the trailer and the truck some. I’ve felt it in a fire truck and knew this trailer was more sail than weight. Where at least my fire truck has weight. So we pulled over and I stayed on the opposite side of a tractor trailer for about 20 mins.
Also said the trans fluid is fine, it was just hotter. I still don’t know about that but he said it was fine.
This does make me feel better.

Depends on the Diesel.
8.1L Power: 330-340 horsepower and 440-455 lb-ft of torque
Lots of Diesel options out there that have much more torque and better gas milage.

And higher maintenance, repair, fuel, entry cost, and fuel additives.
In my opinion you REALLY need to need a diesel to justify it. There are plenty that don’t and still get one. They are stupid fun.

Are we still talking used or new? I can agree on most of those for newer diesels, but older ones, especially pre DPF tech are great options.

Yep exactly why I didn't get one in spite of really wanting one.vr4 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 2:55 pm

Maybe, but how often is maintenance required vs gas? How about resale value, and life of drivetrain?

Re: 2001 gmc sierra 2500 slt
You're talking about at least 15 year old trucks now that have been abused and driven hard. They're going to need lots of maintenance.
Re: 2001 gmc sierra 2500 slt
I agree it would be a little bit harder due to age, but with how resourceful all of you all are, I'm sure you could find several good examples.
Id also like to say to our non California or strict States that emissions test, that you can get even newer Diesels, pull the DPF stuff off enjoy the benefits.

Re: 2001 gmc sierra 2500 slt

Was cleaning up the upstairs garage and had enough I needed to go the dump. So out came the truck and then ran errands with it. Man, it’s stupid long. Lol. If I didn’t drive longer things than it I don’t know how anyone would ever feel comfortable in a LWB. But it’s soooo much better than the avalanche.
