Apparently you can no longer buy skids for subaru vehicles straight from subaru. Wife wants skids for hers so going to order a set from primitive. Got me thinking. I wonder if I should also get a set from them - much higher quality than OEM - and sell my factory ones since you can no longer buy them. Might be able to get a good amount of money off of them.

I would. You like it better, and can cash in.

Outback - new engine skid is huge. Also the transmission skid doesn't go back as far but it's wider and more ground clearance than factory. Kept factory fuel tank skids. Rear diff skid looks smaller than factory but tucks up better and can use it as a jack point, unlike factory. Took about 2-3 hours to remove old and install new. Subaru no longer sells factory skids so I can get a decent penny for the old ones. :glee:

Forester - only took about an hour. Didn't have to remove nearly as much and since still brand new it was even easier to remove/install but without the lift like the outback I can't completely fit underneath so had to do more of a going back and forth side to side to reach stuff.

Nice. I was also wondering why they'd discontinue parts for something so new.

Russian supplier for the skids. You can't find them anymore unless you go aftermarket.

Well I didn't consider that, but that makes sense then.

One thing that has bothered me from day 1 is the sound system. Really not on par with other cars in this price point. Even Danielle has the HK system in hers. Outback got nothing. So had some points saved up and shopped some sales so picked up a set of speakers for the outback. Will do jl audio 6x9 in the front, new tweeters, and focals in the rear. Give that a go. Then down the line if I need a bit more I'll look at doing an amp/woofer combo. Have a mtx powered woofer sitting in the garage and a regular 8" one sitting in the garage. Would just need the amp and enclosure but have read adding an amp to the outback isn't really that easy with the 11.6 screen.

That does look like a fun vehicle. How many miles you have on it now?

About 25k. Really cut back on mileage after I moved last year.

New speakers is night and day difference. Holy crap. Out with the paper 6.5 front and back. In with new tweeters, 6x9 jl audio c1-690 in front and focal rcx-165 in rear. Like a whole new car. So much nicer.
